JCN Girls and Boys Remain Unbeaten in NEKL Play with Sweep of McLouth

Despite playing their fourth game in seven days, the Jefferson County North girls’ basketball team had no problems with McLouth Tuesday night on the road taking down the Bulldogs 59-27.

The Chargers, ranked sixth in 2A, started on a 10-2 run to open up the ballgame, scoring 20 points in the first quarter with freshman Josie Weishaar notching 12 in the opening frame.

JCN’s defense took over in the second quarter holding the Bulldogs to just six points while sophomore Kaitlyn Schneider compiled seven to help push the Charger advantage to 19 heading into halftime.

That lead was extended to 20 after three, and in the fourth quarter eventually reached the 30-point threshold and a running clock the final three minutes.

JCN (11-1, 8-0) was led in scoring by Weishaar’s 19 points and will head to Horton Friday, while McLouth (3-8, 1-6) heads to Immaculata.

BOYS

Backed by a strong defensive effort in the first half, the Jefferson County North boys’ basketball team took down McLouth on the road Tuesday night 59-34.

The Chargers allowed two single-digit quarters in the first half allowing just six points in the first quarter to jump out to a 15-6 lead after one.

JCN then gave up just eight in the second to take a 36-14 lead into halftime as Boston Lane drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap of his nine first half points.

McLouth tried to crawl back into the game cutting the deficit to just 16 heading into the fourth quarter, but again only scored six points in the final frame allowing the Chargers to put the game away.

Braden Schneider dominated the paint despite dealing with foul trouble, scoring a game-high 20 points.

The Chargers,10-2 overall and 8-0 in NEKL play, now head to Horton on Friday for another NEKL contest, while McLouth (2-10, 1-7) travels to Immaculata.
