Riverside Wrestlers Take Albany Invite Title

In a tournament full of competition from Missouri it was the team from Kansas that highlighted the day as Riverside took home first place out of 19 teams which included four JV teams and one freshman team. 

Behind 177 total points Riverside Cyclones took first place as a team winning by 30 points over Smithville who took second place. 

Six individual first place finishes lead Riverside at Albany as Luke Horn (138lbs), Scott Resler (145lbs), Kinstin Juhl (152lbs) Brayden Siemears (160lbs), Jacob MacKnight (182lbs) and Drew Trump (195lbs) all wrestled to perfect records on the day earning first place finishes. Horn notched a 5-0 day on the mats at 138lbs picking up pinfall wins in first four matches (5:18, :15, 1:00 and 1:32) and in the championship bout won by 19-4 technical fall. Resler also wrestled to a 5-0 day on the mats at 145lbs recording all five of his wins by pinfall in :32, :26, 1:54, 1:10 and in 3:59 in the Championship round. Like Horn and Resler, Siemears also went 5-0 on the day at 160lbs registering three pinfall wins (:45, 1:45 and 1:33) along with a 11-6 decision win ot make the championship bout where he won by 13-9 decision. 

Juhl, MacKnight and Trump all recorded 4-0 days on the mats on their way to first place finishes. Juhl at 152lbs registered a win via forfeit and three pinfall wins (:45 and 3:01) including a pinfall win in 50 seconds in the championship match. It was a four pinfall win day for MacKnight winning in 1:47, 2:41, 1:13 and 2:38 in the championship match. Trump won by pinfall in 1:56, 4:36 and 5:23 and got to the championship bout in which he won by a tight 5-4 decision. 

Second place finish was earned by Beau Horn at 126lbs as he went 3-1 with three pinfall victories before falling in the championship bout. Donovan Duncan (220lbs) and Derrick Karn (132lbs) brought home fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively each going 3-2 on the day. 

The Cyclones are set to wrap up the wrestling regular season at the Big Seven League meet next Saturday, February 11th hosted by ACCHS.
