It was two completely different games in Blue Rapids on Tuesday night in Twin Valley League action when Valley Heights hosted Troy. The girls game was a tight low scoring contest and behind a bucket at time expired the Mustangs took the win 30-28, while the boy’s game was control by Troy early and the Trojans won 78-51.

Troy started the girls game on a 6-0 run that spanned the first four minutes of the game but at the end of the quarter the Trojans lead just 6-4 over Valley Heights. In the second the Mustangs were able to only muster three points all from the free throw line and Troy took advantage of some turnovers to go up by as many as 10 in the second and went into the half up 15-7. Third quarter was a flip of the second as Valley Heights got some shots to fall and Troy only managed two points from the free throw line. The Mustangs tied the game at 16-16 with 2:51 left in the third going on a 9-1 run to tie the contest and Valley Heights finally took their first lead of the game 18-17 in the final 20 seconds of the third quarter as Kayla Smith hit a pair of free throws. The contest remained close throughout the fourth with the lead changing hands multiple times. Down two late Troy got the ball and Blair Weishaar rolled to the basket for the layup to tie the game with 13.2 left in the contest. The Mustangs looked for a shot inside but came up short and the ball bounced out of bounds with just a few ticks left in the contest and Valley Heights retained the possession and DeAndra Woodyard tossed it inbounds to Sam Vermetten on the far side block for the shot and Sam converted for her only field goal of the game to lift Valley Heights to the win 30-28.

The win extends Valley Heights win streak to seven and moves them to 9-7 on the year and 4-4 in TVL play. Smith led the Mustangs with 17 points and along with Vermetten who hit the game winning shot earned Community National Bank co-"Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA.

The loss for Troy is their second consecutive two-point loss after recording two wins and the Trojans now sit at 3-12 on the season overall and 2-6 in TVL action. Weishaar led Troy in the loss with nine points.

Troy then pushed the lead up to 14-4 with 3:53 left in the first when Valley Heights called a timeout but out of the timeout the Trojans continued to pour in the points going up 24-4 at one point in the first and led 24-7 at the end of the quarter led by Wyatt Huss who scored 11 points in the first quarter and had 15 by halftime. Valley Heights made pushes at the lead but Troy had answers every time as the Trojans led 40-21 at halftime and 57-34 after three quarters going on to claim the win 78-51.

Leading Troy on the night was Cuttar Huss who scored 24 points, 15 in the second half, while Wyatt Huss finished with 21 points going 7-7 from the free throw line and Wil Smith chipped in 15 points.
