KBCA High School Basketball Rankings Feb. 13 - 15 Area Teams

The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released the latest state rankings for Feb. 13, and this week 15 area teams have cracked the top 10 in their respective classifications.

The only addition to this week’s rankings from a week ago comes in Class 3A, as the Maur Hill-Mount Academy boys check in at No. 9 for the first time this season. The Ravens are on a seven game win streak at 14-3 on the year, and last week picked up a pair of 20-point wins over Valley Falls and Immaculata. MH-MA was joined by Marysville and Nemaha Central on the boys’ side in 3A with the Bulldogs at 13-3 dropping from No. 2 to No. 6 this week, while the Thunder at 14-3 fell from No. 5 to No. 7. Last week Marysville went 1-1 falling to Rock Creek by one before knocking off Clay Center by 15, while Nemaha Central had a pair of double-digit wins over Sabetha and Royal Valley.

On the girls side in 3A Nemaha Central continues to be the only ranked area team checking in at No. 5 this week behind a 15-2 record, after wins over Sabetha and Royal Valley last week.

Class 2A continues to hold the most area teams with three teams in the top 10 on the girls’ side and two on the boys. In the girls rankings Valley Falls made the biggest jump from last week going from No. 9 to No. 6 this week after a pair of wins over Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Jefferson County North sitting at 13-3 on the season. Washington County and Jefferson County North each remained in the top 10 checking in at No. 8 and No. 10, respectively. The Lady Tigers are 14-3 on the season coming off wins over Blue Valley-Randolph and Troy, while JCN is 13-2 after taking down Immaculata and falling to Valley Falls last week. In the boys rankings the Troy Trojans continue to be ranked in 2A moving up to No. 6 and sit at 15-2 on the year after wins over Valley Heights, West Platte and Washington County last week. The Jefferson County North boys remain in the top 10 this week moving up to No. 8 after improving their record to 13-2 with wins over Immaculata and Valley Falls.

Two Big Seven League girls’ teams continue to lead the 4A-Divison II rankings with Holton and Jeff West each maintaining their spots inside the top 5 sitting at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. The Wildcats are 14-3 on the year after a dominating win over Riverside and a four-point win over Jeff West. The Tigers currently hold an 11-4 record coming off a win over ACCHS and a loss to Holton.  

1A-Divison I continues to be dominated by Twin Valley League teams, as the girls and boys sides each have two teams in the top 10. In the girls rankings Centralia continues to be the No. 1-ranked team in the state after a pair of wins over Linn and Valley Heights sitting at 16-1 on the year. Hanover isn’t far behind checking in at No. 3 with a 15-2 record off a pair of 20-point wins over Doniphan West and Onaga. In the boys 1A-I rankings Hanover and Doniphan West each continue to be inside the top 10 with the Wildcats checking in No. 3 once again, while the Mustangs are up one spot to No. 6. Hanover holds a 15-2 record after taking down the Mustangs last Tuesday before a 17-point win over Onaga Friday. Doniphan West at 11-8 suffered losses to Hanover and Falls City Sacred Heart before bouncing back Saturday with a five-point win over Horton.

Two weeks remain in the regular season in high school basketball with the final set of rankings coming Monday, Feb. 20.
