(KLZA)-- Following a tight 1st quarter with four ties and four lead changes Saturday afternoon the Class D2 top ranked Falls City Sacred Heart Irish girls put the clamps on Humphrey St. Francis to win the Class D2, District 1 Title and a berth in the State Tournament.

The Irish led 13-11 after one quarter then held Humphrey St. Francis (14-12) to just 12 point over the final three quarters, to win 44-23. The Flyers managed just two field goals and a pair of free throw in the second half.

Sacred Heart senior Haylee Heits scored 17 points to lead the Irish.  Sara Wertenberger, a  6-foot junior,  scored 10 and swatted away numerous Flyer shots during the game.  Jade Hill scored 8 and Lexi Barnes hit two long ones for the Irish.

Sacred Heart improved to 24-1 on the season and will play the Potter-Dix Coyotes (20-3) Thursday morning, March 2, at Lincoln’s North Star High School in the opening round of the D2 State Tournament.

You can hear the game live on SUNNY 101.3 and on the web at MSCSPORTS.net.
