Frankfort & Centralia Girls Earn Spots in 1A-DI Sub-State Championship

Looking to continue the season and move one win away from a trip to State the action continued in Centralia for 1A-Division I Sub-State play on the girl’s side as Doniphan West took on Frankfort and Centralia faced Onaga. After victories on Thursday night it will be a battle of cats for the girls 1A-DI Sub-State title at Centralia on Saturday as Frankfort beat Doniphan West 38-29 and Centralia won 67-32 over Onaga. 

Frankfort jumped up 5-0 to start the game against Doniphan West and ultimately used that start to hold off the Mustangs and extend their lead during the game to earn the win. Headed into halftime the Wildcats led 22-16 and pushed the lead to eight by the end of the third quarter after establishing a double figure two minutes into the third. Doniphan West dwindled the lead down to three at 31-28 with 3:40 to go in the game but Frankfort held them off and pushed the lead back out a bit down the stretch to snag the 38-29 win. 

Emilee Ebert speared headed Frankfort's offense on the night netting 21 points scoring 12 in the first and finished 9-12 from the free throw line earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. The win moves Frankfort to 15-8 on the season and in to the Sub-State Championship on Saturday. 

Doniphan West with the loss wrapped up their season with a 9-14 record and was led by Mia Scott with 11 points in the contest. 

In the nightcap Centralia found themselves down 5-4 early to Onaga and then the Buffaloes scored the next five points to lead 10-4 with 4:42 left in the first when the Panthers called a timeout and corralled the troops. Out of the timeout Centralia finished the first quarter on a 15-2 run to lead 19-12 after one and then the Panthers outscored Onaga 24-6 in the second to lead 43-18 at intermission going on a 39-8 run of the nearly 13 minutes of play in the first half. Centralia continued to add to the lead in the second half and secured the 67-32 win. 

Onaga in the loss was led by Shay Duer who scored 14 points as the Buffaloes finishes the season 1-21. 

Centralia with the win improves to 21-1 on the year and moves into the Sub-State Championship. Madison Lueger paced the Panthers on the night with a season best 22 points setting the tone early with 11 first quarter points and 18 points in the first half earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Maegan Koch chipped in 12 points for Centralia in the win. 

The Championship game for the 1A-DI Sub-State in Centralia is set for Saturday, March 4th at 6:00pm between Frankfort and Centralia and will be broadcasted on 92.1 KMZA.
