Nemaha Central Boys Golf Leads Area Performances at Washington County Invite Taking Second Place

Finally the skies cleared up and area teams were able to hit the links for the first time this season as six area teams along with two others competed in boy's golf action at the Washington County Invite on Thursday. 

Republic County and Nemaha Central played to a tie for their four-man team score each posting a score of 361 and to decide the tiebreaker it went to the best score between the two teams fifth best score on the day and with a 101 from their fifth best guy Republic County took first place. Nemaha Central had their fifth best score at 111 on the day and the Thunder took second place as a team. Only five strokes back Vermillion (Centralia and Frankfort) took third place as a team posting a team score of 366. Riley County, Valley Heights, Linn, Onaga and Washington County rounded out the team scores posting scores of 422, 432, 455, 485 and 535 to finish fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth.

On the way to second place as a team Nemaha Central was led by the second best individual score of the competition as Dylan Enneking carded a 83 to take second place. Corey Nolte and Dalton Schmelzle joined him in the Top 10 finishing with rounds of 88 and 92, respectively to finish sixth and ninth. Corey Heiman also finished in the Top 20 on the day of 50 golfers tying for 16th with a 98. 

A pair of Top 10 individual finishes led Vermillion as Jason Gore posted a 85 good for fourth place and Austin Hardwick carded a 91 to place eighth. Four more Vermillion golfers snagged Top 20 showings as Brandon Bussman and Kobe Rumbo tied for 11th after shooting rounds of 95, while Spencer Dressman finished 15th with a 97 on the day and Brandon Anderson tied for 16th with a 98. 

Valley Heights was led by Bryan Yungeberg who behind a score of 93 cracked the Top 10 finishing tenth place. 

Linn had a pair of Top five finishers as Chase McGatlin and Andrew Meyer posted rounds of 84 and 87 to place third and fifth, respectively. 

The host Washington County had one Top 20 finisher on the day as Evan Ouellette carded a 99 to tie for 19th place. 

Onaga was led by Ben Kufahl who tied for 25th on the day with a round of 104, while Hanover was also in action not fielding a full team but had their best scoring also tie for 25th with a 104.
