Atchison Girls & Boys Win Home Track Invite

It was a strong start to the track season for the Atchison Redmen girls and boys as they played host to several other schools for track action on Thursday including Holton, Troy and ACCHS from the area. 

Both the Atchison girls and boys won the team crowns at their home meets by sizeable margins as the girls posted 160.5 points to win by 57.5 points and the boys with 151 total points won by 45 points. The Holton boys enjoyed the best area team finish outside of Atchison as the Wildcats took third place, while the lady Wildcats finished sixth out of ten teams. Troy girls finished seventh and boys tenth, while ACCHS place ninth for the girls and eighth for the boys. 

Leading the way for the Atchison girls on the day was a sweep of the relays posting times of 52.20, 4:26.23 and 10:44.27 to win the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. Talia Rawls sprinted her way to gold in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes posting times of 13.62 and 27.13, while Lyndi Hanson won the 800 meter run behind a time of 2:38.27. Atchison girls also swept the hurdles as Libby Harper took first in the 100 meter hurdles (17.62) and Arhianna Franklin won the 300 meter hurdles (52.00). Lindsay Anderson tossed her way to second in the shot put and third in the discus, while Morgan Perry took second in the javelin and Jaihlyn Bratton grabbed the silver in the 400 meter dash. Adalynn Collins and Emily Jaloma each placed third in the 1600 meter run and 300 meter hurdles, respectively. 

Three individual first place finishes on the day led the Atchison boys as Frederick Simpson won the triple jump (41'05), Seth Heckle won the 300 meter hurdles (45.22) and Giovanni Burk won the javelin (120'04). Simpson added a third place in the 200 meter dash to his day, while Heckle also took second in the 110 meter hurdles. Both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams snagged second place, while LaMarca Tolbert had second fastest times in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and Matthew Sowers took second in the 3200, while finishing third in the 1600 meter run. In the field events Nathan Stone earned second in the pole vault, while Alex Martin took second in the triple jump and Cameron Drury placed third in the shot put, discus and javelin. 

Holton Wildcats were led by five first place finishes all in the boy’s competition. Mason Strader earned first place in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:05.34 and 4:41.76, while the Wildcat boys 4x400 meter relay team posted a time of 3:39.77 for the gold. In the field events Tel Wittmer and Andrew Harrison each tossed their way to first place finishes as Wittmer posted a mark of 41'11 to win the shot put and Harrison won the discus with a toss of 138'02. The boy’s 4x100 meter relay team added a second place finish, while Brandon Lehnherr took second in the shot put and discus and Spencer Baum placed third in the 100 meter dash. 

Lady Wildcats were led by a second place finish in the long jump by Shay Tanking, while Alex Myers took third in the same event. Carly Raney grabbed third in the shot put and Emma Wittmer placed third in the javelin for Holton. 

Troy Trojans were led by the performance of Amanda Stock who with a leap of 5'00 won the high jump, while taking second in the triple jump and third in the 100 meter hurdles. 

Second place in the 800 meter run by Victoria Caplinger led ACCHS on the day, while Kayla Vessar placed third in the 200 and 400 meter dashes.
