Hiawatha, Marysville & Atchison Boys Tennis Compete at Hayden Invite

The rackets were swing in full force on Friday at the Hayden boy’s tennis Invite and Hiawatha, Marysville and Atchison were all in action on the courts. 

Competing against each other and the likes of competitors from Hayden, Pittsburg, Spring Hill and Desoto it was Hiawatha posting the top individual performances of the area teams. Leading the way for the Red Hawks was a second and third place in Singles competition. Joseph Kunkel behind a 2-1 day earned second in the Singles #1 competition winning his first match 8-6 over a competitor from Pittsburg and then claiming a win over a athlete from Spring Hill in the Semifinals 8-4. In the Championship match Kunkel lost 1-8 to a competitor from Desoto. In Singles #2 action after going 1-1 in pool play Kyle Tollefson won the third place match to finish the day 2-1 and earn third place. Tollefson won 8-4 over a competitor from Pittsburg and lost 8-1 versus a Desoto athlete in the pool play, then in the third place match Kyle registered an 8-6 win over a competitor form the host Hayden. 

In Doubles competition the Red Hawk teams of Brennon Barnes and Kade Tollefson, along with Justice Nez and Seth Baurlee each finished sixth place in Doubles #1 and #2, respectively after going 0-3 and 1-2 in action.

Marysville was led by the performance of their Doubles #1 team which earned a third place finish after a 2-1 day. The team of Maverick Ohlde and Jaydon Ballman beat the Spring Hill team 8-3 but lost 0-8 to Hayden in pool play and in the third place match finished the competition with a 8-6 win over team from Pittsburg. Team of Dalton Denner and Garrett Drey competed in Doubles #2 for the Bulldogs and finished fifth going 1-1 in action. Both Ben Frese and Matt Holle finished sixth in Singles #1 and #2, respectively going 0-3 and 0-2 on the courts. 

Atchison had Mason Oswalt in action in Singles #1 and the team of Natan Stone and Cameron Fridell in Doubles #2 both would finish seventh place after each going 0-2. 

Both Marysville and Hiawatha will continue their tennis seasons on Monday, April 10th as Marysville hosts a competition, while Atchison will hit the courts again on Wednesday, April 12th competing at the Topeka-Seaman Invite.
