Holton Boys Golf Wins Maur Hill Invitational

Area teams hit the links on Tuesday to keep their season rolling as Maur Hill-Mount Academy played host to six other area teams and one other. 

The Holton Wildcats led the way on the day tallying the best four-man team score by one-stroke just edging out the host Maur Hill-Mount Academy. A team score of 362 earned Holton first place, while Maur Hill followed in second with a 363 score. Immaculata took third with a 388, while Hiawatha and Horton placed fourth and fifth with team scores of 399 and 416. Atchison, Royal Valley and Bonner Springs finished sixth, seventh and eighth with team scores of 418, 434 and 464. 

Four Top 10 individual performances helped Holton earn first place as a team on the day. AJ Haussler led the Wildcats earning second place after shooting an 82. While, Riley Shepley, Rafe Folk and Ryan Taylor finished sixth, ninth and tenth after carding rounds of 92, 93 and 95. Austin Shepley also medal for the Wildcats placing 11th with a 97. 

A trio of Maur Hill golfers notched Top five finishes as Riley Funk, Isaac Henderson and Cole Harris placed third, fourth and fifth after shooting rounds of 85, 87 and 92. 

Immaculata was led by the best individual round of the day as Evan Wheaton posted a 72 on the day to win the tournament by 10 strokes. 

Two Atchison golfers earned medals on the day as Derek Thompson and Nathan Sowers placed eighth and 12th after shooting rounds of 92 and 98 on the course. 

For the Hiawatha Red Hawks, Tom Nolte earned a medal finishing seventh place behind a 92 on the links on Tuesday.
