Holton Boys & Jeff West Girls Lead Performances at Royal Valley Track Invite

With League meets looming next week area track teams continued their season on Thursday in Hoyt as Royal Valley played host to multiple area teams. 

In the girls competition the Jeff West Tigers led the way posting 179 total points to win the team crown over seven other teams, while Holton took second with 103 points and the host Royal Valley earned third. Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Atchison, McLouth, Oskaloosa and Silver Lake finished out the team standings in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. Atop the boys team standings to end the day was the Holton Wildcats who scored 130 total points to take first, while Royal Valley earned second with 99 points and Maur Hill-Mount Academy finished third. Jeff West, Atchison, Oskaloosa, McLouth and Silver Lake finished out the boys team standings in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. 

Eleven first place performances led the way for the Jeff West TIgers and all 11 came in the girl’s competition. Makenzie Tucker led the charge winning three events as she posted times of 2:28.72 and 5:48 to win the 800 and 1600 meter runs, while a vault of 8'00 gave her first place in the pole vault. Times of 13.19 and 61.89 earned first place finishes for Jordan Hawman who won the 100 and 400 meter dashes with those times. Also on the track Sarah Sayles took first in the 3200 meter run (13:11.92), while 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams won behind times of 53.25 and 4:25.97. In the field events Dejalyn Saili tossed her way to two golds winning the shot put (36'01.75) and discus (106'07.50), while Brooke Dillenbeck won the triple jump (33'06.50). 

Holton Wildcats had nine event wins on the day with seven coming in the boy’s action leading the Wildcat boys’ team to first place. Wildcat boy’s runners won the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meter competitions. Spencer Baum and Jayger Carson each sprinted to times of 11.41 and 23.40 to win the boys 100 and 200 meter dashes, while a time of 52.00 won the 400 meter dash for Bryson Patch. Mason Strader earned first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.28. The Wildcat boys 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams also earned gold after recording times of 44.22 and 3:29.49. In the field events Andrew Harrison led the Holton boys by winning the discus (134'06). Lady Wildcats were led by Reagan Baum and Courtney Boswell who won the 100 (16.89) and 300 (51.93) meter hurdles, respectively.

The host Royal Valley had seven top performances at their home meet with Mary Broxterman notching two of them as she won the 200 meter dash (27.97) and high jump (4'08). Alyssa Gooderl also won an event in the girl’s competition for the Panthers taking first in the long jump (15'00.50). In the boy’s competition Royal Valley had three field event winners as Doren Rupnicki won the shot put (47'01.50), while Kenny Atkens took first in the javelin (155'11) and Garrett Hicks earned first in the pole vault (12'00). Gavin Cumpton also won an event racing to a time of 16.35 to take first in the boy’s 110 meter hurdles. 

Atchison had a trio of first place finishes on the day as Matt Sowers won the boys 1600 meter run (4:59), while the boys 4x800 meter relay (9:21.28) took first and Morgan Perry won the girls javelin (110'05.50). 

John Tarwater led Oskaloosa Bears performances on the day as he won the boys 300 meter hurdles (42.31) and high jump (6'00). 

McLouth had Dimitri Tullis win both the boys long jump and triple jump with leaps of 19'03.75 and 43'03, respectively. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy was led by the girl’s 4x800 meter relay team who took first with a time of 10:43.67.
