Nemaha Central Boys & Jeff West Girls Earn Big Seven Track Titles

Competitive all around on Thursday in Holton as the Big Seven League track meet took place to wrap up the track regular season for the League teams. 

At the end of the day it was the Nemaha Central boys and Jeff West girls earning the Big Seven track titles. The Thunder boys posted 132 total points and won the League title by 11 points over Perry Lecompton who captured second, while Sabetha finished third just 1.33 points ahead of Holton who placed fourth. Royal Valley, Riverside, Hiawatha, Jeff West and ACCHS finished out the boys team standings in fifth through ninth. In the girls competition Jeff West tallied 158.5 points to win the League title by 12 points, while Nemaha Central earned second and Perry Lecompton placed third. Sabetha, Hiawatha, Holton, Royal Valley and ACCHS finished out the girls team standings in fourth through eighth. 

Nemaha Central Thunder had 10 first place individual event winners on the day with two athletes each winning three events. Jacob Koelzer sprinted past the competition to win the boys 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.16 and 22.71, while leaping to the win in the long jump behind a leap of 21'06.75. In the girls competition Kaley Dalinghaus tossed her way to three event wins posting tosses of 42'04, 129'06 and 145'09 to win the shot put, discus and javelin, respectively. The Thunder boys and girls 4x100 meter relay teams each took first with times of 43.68 and 52.11, respectively; while Zach Buessing won the 110 meter hurdles (15.72) and Caleb Henry won the pole vault (13'00). 

Jeff West Tigers also had 10 event winners on the day at the Big Seven League meet all coming in the girls competition. Mariah Murdie led the Tigers sweeping the hurdles with times of 15.50 and 49.96 to win the 100 and 300 meters, while also winning the triple jump with a leap of 37'02.50. Lady Tigers 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams each earned first with times of 4:15.96 and 10:04, respectively. Jordan Hawman sprinted to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes behind times of 26.53 and 61.40, while Makenzie Tucker took first in the 800 meter run (2:27.40) and Macy Tucker won both the 1600 meter run (5:36.75) and pole vault (9'00). 

Cali Coleman led the way for the Perry Lecompton Kaws as she won the 100 meter dash (12.81) and long jump (17'01.50), while Talisa Stone earned first in the girls high jump (5'02). In the boys action the Kaws 4x400 meter relay (3:27.52) earned first, while Shane Quinlan won the 400 meter dash (51.38) and Colton Mallonee won the triple jump (42'07). 

A trio of Royal Valley boys earned first place finishes as Lucas Broxterman won the high jump (6'04), Matthew Kline took first in the 3200 meter run (10:42.90) and Kenny Aitkens won the javelin (154'04). 

Eric Renyer led the Sabetha Bluejay performances claiming first place in the shot put (48'07.50) and discus (148'00), while the Bluejay boy’s 4x800 meter relay (8:39.62) team also took first place. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks were led by Elizabeth Kettler and Gavin Lierz as they won the girls 3200 meter run (12:21.40) and boy’s 300 meter hurdles (40.68). 

The Holton Wildcats were led by Mason Strader who with times of 2:02.42 and 4:39.36 won the boys 800 and 1600 meter runs.
