After winning the Big Seven League title the Perry Lecompton Kaws softball team added to the trophy case on Tuesday in Wathena by winning the Regional title and earning a spot at the Class 3A State tournament. After a first round by the Kaws beat the Regional host Riverside 17-2 in the Semifinals and then took down Oskaloosa 8-3 in the Championship.

The Kaws opened the day falling behind against Riverside as the Cyclones scored a run in the Top of the first inning but it didn't take long for Perry Lecompton to answer as they plated six runs themselves in the bottom of the first and didn't look back. The scoring continued for Perry Lecompton as they added three runs in the second and third innings each and finished the game in the fourth via run-rule by plating five runs to win 17-2. Behind an offensive attack that pounded out 20-hits and out-hit Riverside 20-4 the Kaws cruised to the Regional Semifinals. Cassody O'Conner lead the Kaws offense with four hits, while Harleigh Robertson and Gracie Folks each had three hits and Ronna Erickson tossed all four innings to earn the win in the circle.

After Oskaloosa held off Wellsville for an 11-10 Semifinal win that set up the showdown in the Regional Championship between Perry Lecompton and Oskaloosa. The Bears struck first plating three runs in the Top of the first on just a pair of hits but Perry Lecompton had an answer using a pair of hits and some Oskaloosa errors to match the Bears and the game was knotted up at 3-3 after one inning. Perry Lecompton did the rest of the scoring as Oskaloosa had trouble keeping the Kaws off the board with the Kaws scoring a run in the second, third and fourth innings and two more in the bottom of the fifth before shutting the door and finishing the game for the 8-3 win. Megan Fast earned the win in the circle going seven innings and recording four strikeouts giving up just five hits. The Kaws offensive was strong again out-hitting Oskaloosa 14-5 and was led by Robertson who had three hits and two RBI's, while Abbi Folks registered two hits and three RBI's.

Perry Lecompton with the two wins plus another win accredited via a first round bye now sit at 21-2 riding an eight-game winning streak as they head into the Class 3A State tournament. The 3A State tournament is set for Thursday and Friday, May 25-26th in Manhattan at Twin Oaks Complex.
