Sabetha, Frankfort & Immaculata Golfers Lead Area Boys Golf Performances at State

Area boy's golfers teed off one final time this season on Monday all across the State competing in the State competitions. 

Leading the charge for the area with the most area golfers in competition was Class 3A and the Sabetha Bluejays paced the way for area performers at the Independence Country Club. The Bluejays with a team score of 345 earned fourth place and were led by Jesse Burger who carded an 84 and won a five-way playoff to take seventh place out of 101 golfers. Garrett Scott placed 11th for the Bluejays after also carding an 84, while David Pierson tied for 13th shooting an 86. Reese Lierz, Noah Garber and Brendan Rokey were also in action for Sabetha tying for 35th, tying for 50th and tying for 65th, respectively after rounds of 91, 94 and 102. 

Nemaha Central boys were also in action as a team and finished eight with a four-man team score of 375 led by Dyaln Enneking who tied for 19th with an 87. Cory Nolte posted a 90 on the links to tie for 30th, while Dalton Schmelzle tied for 55th. Eric Hammes, Corey Heiman and Billy Mitchell were all also in action for the Thunder tying for 65th, placing 88th and 91st, respectively after rounds of 102, 111 and 115. 

Five other area golfers were in action at the 3A State tournament. Horton Charger, Cameron Smith tied for 45th with a 93, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy Rave, Isaac Henderson shot a 100 to tie for 62nd and his teammate, Nolan Dulac tied for 71st after a 104. Tom Nolte of Hiawatha shot a 105 to finish tied for 74th, while Corey Humpert of Royal Valley finished tied for 81st with a 108. 

In Class 1A area golfers hit the course in Goodland at Sugar Hills golf course and Immaculata Raider, Evan Wheaton earned the 1A individual State title shooting a 75 to finish +4 on the day and win the State competition by five strokes beating out 88 other golfers. The Raiders as a team took seventh place with a team score of 403 as Wheaton's teammates: Zach Schwinn (tie 32nd - 98), Cade Clemens (58th - 107); Ben Vardiman (79th - 123), Matthew Collene (tie 80th - 125) and Emma Bollin (tie 86th - 129) were all in action. 

Frankfort boys as a team earned fourth place as a four-man team with a score of 377 led by Austin Hardwick who earned tenth place individually after shooting an 85. Brandon Anderson tied for 12th for the Wildcats with an 87 on the day, while Branden Bussman tied for 41st with a 100. Spencer Dressman finished out the Wildcat four-man team score shooting a 105 to tie for 50th, while Josh Tynon and Adam Kenworthy tied for 54th and 59th, respectively with rounds of 106 and 108. 

Four other area golfers from the Twin Valley League were in action in Class 1A at State in Goodland on Monday. Both Jason Gore of Centralia and Ben Kufahl of Onaga tied for 12th after posting a round of 87 each, while Andrew Meyer of Linn tied for 15th with an 88 and Chase McGatlin of Linn tied for 25th with a 94. 

Class 4A featured three Big Seven League golfers in action at Wamego Country Club. Jeff West Tigers Preston Stanley and Cooper Mickens were in action posting finishes of tying for 22nd and tying for 58th with rounds of 83 and 93. Holton Wildcat, AJ Haussler shot an 88 and tied for 45th. 

A pair of golfers out of the TVL hit the links in Garden City at the Golf Club of Southwind competing in the Class 2A State competition. Washington County Tiger, Evan Ouellette shot a 100 to tie for 45th, while Valley Heights Mustang, Bryan Yungeberg shot a 113 to tie for 61st as 87 golfers where in action.
