Nemaha Central, Axtell & Valley Heights Lead Performances at Washington County Cross Country Invite

Just the second cross country competition of the season for several area teams and athletes and plenty of strong performances were posted. 

In the boys competition the Nemaha Central Thunder put together the best team performance winning by 17 points over the host Washington County who took second as a team. Solomon finished third in the boys competition, while Southern Cloud, Centralia, Valley Heights and Onaga all fielded teams finishing fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. 

On the girls side of competition only three schools had full teams and Southern Cloud took first, while Onaga and Frankfort finished second and third as teams. 

The top two girl’s times belonged to the Axtell Eagle tandem of Olivia Kuckelman and Jordyn Smith who posted times of 21:56.66 and 23:00.97 to take first and second, respectively. A trio of Eagle boys finished in the Top 10 and four in the Top 15 overall on the day. Quinn Buessing with a time of 18:26.59 earned second place, while Simon Schmitz raced to fifth (19:19.57) and Blake Porting finished ninth (20:15.57). Mitchell Buessing earned 14th place for the Eagle boys. 

The top boy’s time of 18:19.27 belonged to Alex Hardin of Valley Heights, while in the girls action Abby Lister posted a time of 23:37.01 took fifth place for Valley Heights. 

Five Centralia Panthers registered Top 20 finishes between the girls and boys races at Washington County. Leading the lady Panthers was Emma Holthaus who placed fourth with a time of 23:37.01 and Emily Weyer earned 15th place. The Panther boys were led by Devon Feldkamp who notched a time of 19:13.91 to take fourth, while Ransom Engelken finished 12th and Federico D'Funbrosio placed 16th. 

A trio of boys in the Top 20 helped the Nemaha Central Thunder to the top team spot with Jordan Peterson leading the Thunder as he placed eighth behind a time of 19:57.62. Roland Voracek and Dominic Hammes registered 11th and 15th, respectively. 

The host Washington County Tigers was led by Tyler Simmons who placed third in the boy’s race with a time of 19:10.53, while Tray Zabokrtsky and Kobe Hoover finished 19th and 20th. 

Onaga, Frankfort and Troy each had a duo finish in the Top 20 of the girl’s race. For the Buffaloes Halie Jeanneret earned tenth place posting a time of 27:08.11, while Belinda Ames brought home 13th place. 

Frankfort Wildcats had Tori Keller and Lauryn Stewart race to 14th and 16th place finishes on the day, while Troy was led by Holly Williams and Kyla Reel who notched finishes of 12th and 19th, respectively. 

Clifton-Clyde Eagles were led by an 11th place finish from Alyssa Brown in the girl’s race.
