Nemaha Central Wins Home Volleyball Invitational

The strong start to the volleyball season continued for the Nemaha Central Thunder on their home court on Saturday as they hosted many other area teams in tournament action and earned the tournament in the process. 

Action got rolling in Seneca on Saturday with pool play as each pool featured five teams with the top two in each pool moving to the Semifinals of the tournament. In the Blue pool Atchison, Rock Creek and Sabetha all finished 3-1 in pool play and via the tie-breakers Atchison and Rock Creek took first and second in the pool. Atchison earned wins over Rock Creek, Riverside and Horton, while Rock Creek beat Sabetha, Horton and Riverside. Sabetha's 3-1 showing had wins over Horton, Atchison and Horton for the Bluejays. Horton picked up a win over Riverside in the pool to finish 1-3 and Riverside went 0-4. 

In the Purple pool it was the host of the tournament leading the performances as Nemaha Central went through pool play unbeaten going 4-0 with wins over ACCHS, Pleasant Ridge and Hiawatha and also Marysville which was a tough set battle. Marysville took second in the pool going 3-1 topping Hiawatha, Pleasant Ridge and ACCHS. ACCHS had a 2-2 day with wins against Hiawatha and Pleasant Ridge, while the Rams went 1-3 with a win over Hiawatha as the Red Hawks went 0-4 on the day. 

The Semifinals were set up with Nemaha Central facing Rock Creek and Atchison playing Marysville. The Thunder rolled past Rock Creek in straight sets, while Atchison needed three sets to top Marysville.

In the Championship Nemaha Central continued to dominate the day by beating Atchison in straight sets. The third place match went to Marysville as the Bulldogs won in straight sets over Rock Creek.
