Sabetha Girls Tennis Takes Second Leading Area Performers at Hiawatha Invite

The action heated up on the Saturday in Hiawatha on the tennis courts as the Red Hawks hosted several teams for tournament action. 

Leading the way for the area performances was the Sabetha Bluejays as they earned second place overall as a team. A 4-0 first place finish in Singles #2 competition led Sabetha as Bree Voos posted the performance. In pool play Voos won 7-5 over Hiawatha, 7-3 over Lawrence Free State and 7-1 over Seaman, then in the Finals won 7-4 over her own teammate Addie Hunning. Hunning took second in Singles #2 action posting a 2-2 mark with loss in the Finals to Voos, while in pool play earned wins 7-3 over Perry Lecompton and 7-1 over Atchison and had a 5-7 loss to Highland Park. Singles #1 action saw Kirsten Wenger earn second place with a 3-1 day. Wenger won 7-3 over Highland Park, 7-2 over Perry Lecompton and 7-3 over Atchison in pool play but fell 1-7 to Seaman in the Finals. Doubles #2 competition saw Sabetha take second and fourth place. Gracie Robinson and Hannah Wertenberger went 3-1 in action to take second winning 8-6 over Highland Park, 7-3 over Perry Lecompton and 7-3 over Atchison to make the Finals but fell to Lawrence Free State 1-7 in the Finals. A 2-2 day earned the team of Olivia Meyer and Emily Murchinson fourth place in Doubles #2 as they snagged wins of 7-1 versus Hiawatha and 7-4 over Seaman in pool play but lost 1-7 to Lawrence Free State and fell 5-7 to Highland Park in the third place match. 

Perry Lecompton Kaws were led by a 4-0 showing in the Doubles #1 action as the tandem of Graci Folks and Sammy Worthington earned first place. The duo in pool play won 7-1 over Atchison, 7-2 over Sabetha and 7-0 over Highland Park and in the Finals won 7-1 over Lawrence Free State. In Singles #1 action Ella Barrett posted a 2-2 mark to place third picking up a 7-1 win over Atchison and 7-5 win over Highland Park in pool play with a loss 2-7 to Sabetha and then in the third place match won 7-1 over Lawrence Free State. A 2-2 performance by Harigold Reumond earned her fourth place in Singles #2 action winning 7-6 over Highland Park and 7-2 over Atchison in pool play while falling to Sabetha 3-7 and then fell in the third place contest to Hiawatha 6-7. 

Host Hiawatha Red Hawks were led by the performance of Bethany Meyers who posted a 3-1 mark to earn third place in the Singles #2 competition. Meyers won 7-2 and 7-4 in pool play over Seaman and Lawrence Free State, but fell to Sabetha 5-7. In the third place match Meyers won a tough 7-6 contest over Perry Lecompton. 

Atchison's top performance came from Brianna Dove & Olivia Wabski who finished 3-1 to take third place in Doubles #1 action. Dove and Wabski in pool play won 7-1 over Highland Park and 7-0 over Sabetha, while falling to Perry Lecompton 1-7 and then finished strong with a 7-5 win over Seaman in the third place match.
