The Holton Wildcats have a third Class 4A State Championship Trophy to add to their football hardware collection after posting a 21-0 victory Saturday over Eudora!  On a windy day in Salina, Holton was held to a season low 220 yards of total offense; however, the top ranked Wildcat defense pitched another shutout and capped a prefect 14-0 season!

Holton held Eudora to 139 total yards, 41 of those came on a fourth day play in the fourth quarter, which was the only Cardinal snap that went for more than 11 yards.  Eudora started all five offensive drives in the first half from their 34 yard-line or better, including their initial possession, which began at the Holton 40 after a fumble (the only turnover of the game).  Yet, the Cardinals managed only three first down and 58 yards in the opening two quarters.  Holton was slow to start on offense as well, as they went three-and-out on their three drives following the early turnover (only their 10th turnover all year).  The Wildcats though put together a quick 7-play drive and marched 51 yards late in the second quarter and Chase Wilson took an option pitch from Jaxon Wright for a nine-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.

After forcing a three-and-out defensively to start the second half, Holton needed just two plays to double their lead as Wright ran a 37 yard dazzling score to pay-dirt.  While the Holton defense continued to dominate, the Wildcats took control of the line of scrimmage and fullback Lane Lassiter finished the scoring with a 35 yard run early in the fourth quarter.  The Wildcat defense did everything else, including 4 sacks, 4 stops on fourth down, and 8 tackles for a loss, while holding Eudora to just 6 first downs in the game.

Eudora ends up 12-2 and state runner-up for the second straight season, also falling by a 21-0 score to Rose Hill in 2011.  Junior quarterback, Andrew Ballock led the Cardinals with 58 yards rushing and was 2 of 6 passing for 6 yards.

Wright paced Holton's offense with 74 yards while fellow senior, Cameron Karn added 56 on a team-high 15 carries.  Holton celebrated their sixth trip to the Class 4A Title Game under Coach Brooks Barta (173-30 in 17 years), with a third football championship, having previously won it all in 2003 and undefeated in 2005.  As it turned out, the only opponent of 14 to play Holton within 20 points was #3 McPherson, whom the Cats defeated in Sectionals 31-27.  The Wildcats also knocked off #2 Collegiate and #4 Mulvane on the road in their post-season run and finished up by shutting out #5 Eudora, to leave no doubt who the best 4A team in the state was from start to finish in 2012.
