One-third of the high school football season is in the books and some teams are off to hot starts, while others are looking to make some adjustments before District play gears up.

Five area teams remain in the polls across the State this week with not much movement in the polls overall.

The Nemaha Central Thunder are 3-0 after a 30-18 win over Holton last Friday and have now won 23-consecutive regular season games and 18-consecutive Big Seven League games. Nemaha Central is #1 across the board this week in the Class 3A polls. Marysville Bulldogs are also 3-0 to open the season after dispatching Wamego 50-13 last Friday and continue to remain ranked #5 in the 3A polls across the State of Kansas. Both Sabetha and Perry Lecompton also have opened the season 3-0 and are getting attention in several polls.

The other area team in the polls top spot is the Hanover Wildcats as they continue to hold down #1 in 8-Man Division II after cruising past Southern Coffey County 50-0 winning at the half again this year to improve to 3-0. Fellow Twin Valley League teams in Axtell and Linn with their 2-1 starts to the season are getting attention in the 8-Man DII polls, while Clifton-Clyde is 3-0 to start the year and getting attention in the 8-Man DI polls.

Class 2-1A houses a pair of area teams in the rankings again this week with a few more knocking on the doors to break into the polls. The Jefferson County North Chargers are 3-0 after another dominating win beating Pleasant Ridge 58-30 last Friday and the Chargers rank as high as #2 by VarsityKansas and Kpreps in the rankings, coming in at #3 in two other polls. The Valley Heights Mustangs have run over their opponents through the first three weeks figuratively and literally with their triple option attack and sit at 3-0 after beating Christ Prep 46-13. The Mustangs are ranked as high as #3 in Class 2-1A, coming in at #4 in another poll and #5 in two others. A trio of other area teams are getting attention in the 2-1A polls after three weeks of play as Jackson Heights is 3-0 and both Centralia and Doniphan West are 2-1 and all getting attention in the polls.

Class 4A-Division II continues to see Holton getting looks in the rankings after a 1-2 start to the season.
