Sabetha Girls & Boys Sweep Cross Country Titles at Nemaha Central Invite

Several area cross country teams converged upon Spring Creek golf course in Seneca on Thursday to continue their seasons competing in the Nemaha Central Invite Invitational. 

Leading the way were the Sabetha Bluejays who flew home with a pair of team titles on the day. The lady Bluejays with 23 points took first place, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy earned second, ACCHS placed third and Onaga fourth to finish out the girl’s team finishes. On the boys side a total of 69 points won the meet for Sabetha, while Centralia finished in second, Maur Hill in third, Nemaha Central fourth and Washington County fifth. Jefferson County North, Hiawatha, Valley Heights and Horton also all field teams finishing sixth through ninth, respectively. 

Sabetha girls on their way to first place were led by four Top 10 finishes on the day, while two more gals placed in the Top 20. The trio of Hattie Luckert, Skylar McAfee and Megan Meyer earned second, third and fourth place finishes with times of 22:14.80, 22:16.80 and 22:29.90, while Kenzie Meyer nabbed tenth place posting a time of 25:06. Madison Cochran and Ellen Glynn were both in action also and placed 18th and 19th. Bluejay boys were led by Henry Glynn who raced to a time of 18:33.60 to finish fourth, while Micah Romines placed 14th. 

Leading the Axtell Eagles on the day was a pair of individual first place finishes. In the girls competition the performance of Olivia Kuckelman set the pace as she raced to another first place finish posting a time of 21:42.10 to win the Nemaha Central Invite. Jordyn Smith earned sixth placed for the lady Eagles behind a time of 23:12.90. Quinn Buessing won the boys race with a time of 18:14.90, while Simon Schmitz earned eighth place with a time of 19:18.50 and Blake Porting finished 15th. 

A pair of Top 10 finishes in the boy’s race led Maur Hill as Ayden Black and Isaiah Price finished fifth and seventh with times of 18:41 and 19:05 to lead the Ravens. While in the girls competition the lady Ravens had four Top 20 finishers Erica Laureano 11th, Dorothy Hoopes 12th, Sara Domann 13th and Caeli Haigh 20th.

On the way to second place as a team in the boys competition Centralia was led by Dylan Boeckman who posted a time of 19:22.70 to take ninth, while Devon Feldkamp and Ransom Engelken placed 12th and 17th. In the girls competition Emma Holthaus earned seventh place with a time of 23:20.20. 

Two Top 10 performances led the Wetmore Cardinals at the Nemaha Central Invitational as Elena Pfrang raced to fifth place with a time of 22:57.10 and Jonathan Hladky-Bailey earned tenth place behind a time of 19:25.30.

The ACCHS Tigers had four girls post Top 20 finishes led by Victoria Caplinger who finished eighth after running to a time of 24:01.50. Erin Hamilton, Madison Appel and Asthon Appel placed 14th, 15th and 16th on the day for the Tigers. 

Valley Heights Mustangs had a duo finish in the Top 10 on the day as both Abby Lister and Alex Hardin continued their strong cross country performances this season placing ninth (25:02.10) and third (18:31.60) in the girls and boys race, respectively. 

Nemaha Central and JCN each had multiple Top 20 finishes on the day. For the Thunder Jordan Peterson and Roland Voracek placed 16th and 19th in the boy’s competition. While for JCN Rose Wendling took 17th in the girl’s race and Trevor Pentln and Logan Baker placed 11th and 18th in the boy’s competition. 

Riverside Cylcone Matthew Kline with a time of 18:58.40 nabbed sixth place in the boys race, while Tyler Simmons of Washington County earned second place after posting a time of 18:18.30.

Horton Charger, Skye Joe Coversup finished 13th in the boys race, while Hiawatha Red Hawk Gabe Corbett took 20th.
