The Axtell Eagle volleyball team has set a flight pattern for Hays the last few years and this year is no different as the lady Eagles are set to make their fourth straight trip to State in Class 1A-Division II after capturing the Sub-State title.

Playing host to Sub-State this year the Eagles drew the one seed in their Sub-State and got a first round bye into the Semifinals. In the Semifinals the Eagles took on fellow Twin Valley League team in the Wetmore Cardinals and won the battle of the birds in straight sets 25-11, 25-20.

The Championship contest saw Axtell square off with Linn another TVL team and a team that they needed three sets to beat earlier in the season. The Eagles once again needed three sets to capture a win over Linn as Axtell lost set one but bounced back to win the next two for the match 22-25, 25-20, 27-25.

With the win the Eagles are 18-19 on the season and head to the 1A-DII State tournament looking to defend their State title from last year which was the first in school history. The Eagles have finished top three the last three years at state and this year will be seeded seventh in the 1A-DII State tournament. Axtell opens pool play at State on Friday, October 27th at 4:30pm against Northern Valley, then will play at 5:30pm against St. John's/Tipton and will finish pool play at 7:30pm versus Waverly.
