Blue Valley-Randolph Heads Into Holiday Break With TVL Sweep Of Onaga

The holiday break is here and headed into the break the Blue Valley Rams snagged a pair of road Twin Valley League wins against Onaga in the final action of 2017. The lady Rams earned the 50-19 win, while Blue Valley boys won 56-44. 

GIRLS 

Onaga opened the game with the initial bucket of the contest but Blue Valley answered with a 6-0 run and it was 6-4 when the Rams finished the first quarter strong on a 7-1 run to lead 13-5 after the first quarter. That lead grew to as many as 13 points in the second stanza as Blue Valley went up 20-7 and went into halftime up 26-15. The Rams finished the game strong outscoring Onaga in the second half 24-4 to secure the 50-19 win as a trio of gals in double figures led the Rams in the win. 

Allie Cassel led the way for Blue Valley netting 19 points including 11 in the second half to help Blue Valley to the win and earning her Community National Bank "Player of to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA. Brooklyn Zoeller chipped in 11 points and Kacie Duncan tallied 10 points as the Rams moved to 2-3 on the season and 2-3 in Twin Valley League action. 

The loss sends Onaga to 0-5 on the year and 0-2 in the League. Belinda Ames and Rebecca Krohn led Onaga with six points each. 

Both teams head into the holiday break and will return to the basketball court on Tuesday, January 2nd when Blue Valley travels to Clifton-Clyde and Onaga heads to Valley Falls.

BOYS 

Both teams held leads early but Onaga clung to a 13-11 lead after one quarter of play and extended their lead to 21-15 with 4:20 left in the first half behind the hands of Tanner Marten. Blue Valley answered with an 8-2 spurt and tied the contest at 23-23 in the final minute of the first half but Onaga had an opportunity just before the half to regain the lead. The Buffaloes tok the 26-23 lead into halftime as Marten banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer just before halftime. 

Out of the half Blue Valley took the game in their favor grabbing a 31-28 lead with 4:02 left in the third quarter and led 39-33 after three quarter's using a 16-7 third quarter. Blue Valley grew the lead in the fourth and Onaga managed to get it within single digits late but the Rams secured the win 56-44 win for their first win of the season. 

Blue Valley with the win heads into the break 1-5 on the season and 1-4 in TVL action. Lane Peter led the charge for the Rams scoring 18 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA. Bryson Brockman chipped in 11 points, while Cole Montgomery scored 10 points. 

Onaga in the loss was led by Marten who had another monster night scoring 28 points with 19 in the first half. The Buffaloes head into the break 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in TVL action. 

Both teams head into the holiday break and will return to the basketball court on Tuesday, January 2nd when Blue Valley travels to Clifton-Clyde and Onaga heads to Valley Falls.
