1st Round Games at Thunder Invite Boys Tourney in Seneca

Silver Lake 55, Horton 32

The #2 seed Silver Lake led 28-17 at halftime become going on a 17-0 run to start the second half and put game away.  Mason Griffin scored more points than the Horton team with 33 including six treys, but nobody else had more than five for the Eagles.  Horton got 12 points from Craig Wahwahsuck and Cole Bottom scored eight, as the Chargers (2-8) played without two starting guards and had 28 turnovers in the loss.

 

Falls City 4, Jackson Heights 41

The only competitive game of the first round also had the only lower seed win as #6 seed Falls City led throughout the contest.  Jackson Heights went on a 7-0 to tie the score at nine early, but the Tigers extended the lead to double digits again and maintained that until Braden Dohl hit a trifecata just before half to make it a 28-21 advantage. 

Lane Thomas buried a triple at the end of the third quarter to pull the Cobras within 38-35 and Kolby Rethman had a steal and two free throw to tie the game fro the second time at 41-41 with two minutes remaining. Collin  Cook hit a go ahead free throw with 1:20 to play to break the tie, then after two free throws by Maon Crawford, Cook grabbed a clutch steal with 22 seconds left to protect a 44-41lead.  Rudy Vrtiska hit two more free throws in the final second as the Tigers (8-9) held on for the victory. 

Cook scored 14 points while Crawford added 11 and Vrtiska had 8.  Falls City was 14-19 at the foul-line while the Cobras made just 4-12 at the stripe.  Jackson Heights (7-2) got 11 points from Thomas and nine from Dohl while Rethman added eight. 

 

Marysville 67, St. Mary’s 42

The #4 seed Marysville won every quarter in route to a win and fourth quarter running clock.  The Bulldogs led 37-18 at halftime and hit 11 three-pointers in the victory.  Gabe Pieschl scored 20 points while Nick Sparks had 12 of four treys and Jack Blumer added 11.  Caden Hurla had 10 to pace the Bears.



Nemaha Central 48, Hiawatha 28

Top seed and host Nemaha Central jumped to a 21-2 lead and held Hiawatha without a field goal until a few minutes into the second quarter.  Mitchell Henry scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth stanza while Matt Baumgartner added 11 and Dalton Schmelzle and Camron Feldkamp each posted nine for the Thunder (9-1).  Hiawatha won the third frame 14-8 but could never get closer than 14 points.  Michael Moreno had 10 points for the winless Redhawks who were led by assistant Coach Dave Olson in the absence of Andrew Eckert, who became a father earlier in the week.
