Falls City and Marysville Advance to Thunder Classic Championship

The number four and number six seeds have advanced to the championship at the fourth annual Thunder Classic Boys Tournament in Seneca.

Semifinal = Marysville 69, Nemaha Central 45
In a battle of state ranked teams, #4 seed Marysville hit 11 treys for the second straight game and jumped to a 14-2 first quarter lead while Gabe Pieschl scored a season high 36 points in the win.  Nemaha trailed 29-15 at halftime and got within nine points 48-39 with five minutes left in the game, but Pieschl took over scoring 11 points during a 14-1 run over the next two minutes to make it 62-40.  Seven different Bulldogs hit a three-pointer as Marysville improved to 9-2. 

Nemaha Central had eight of their 16 turnovers in the first quarter when they dug a huge hole and did not make a three-pointer all night.  The Thunder did made 17-27 free throws with all but four attempted in the second half before falling to 9-2 on the season.  Mitchell Henry had all 13 of his points in the second half while Matt Baumgartner added 12 and Cole Kramer scored 11.   

Semifinal = Falls City 56, Silver Lake 55 in overtime
In a tight contest from start to finish, #6 seed Falls City pulled another upset Mason Crawford had a putback shot with five second left in overtime to give the Tigers the win.  Brandt Chapple returned and took over in the second half scoring 21 points while Collin Cook added 15 as Falls City evened their record at 9-9.  Mason Griffin made a shot to send the game to overtime and finished with 17 points for the Eagles. 

Consolation = Jackson Heights 34, Horton 28
It was a slow game with little energy or offensive fire-power to start the day Thursday and these NEKL teams met for the second time in a week.  Jackson Heights led 11-9 at halftime and held on for the win as Cooper Williams led the way with nine points.  Cole Bottom had a game high 12 in the loss for Horton.

Consolation = St. Mary's 56, Hiawatha 29
This game was over early as the Bears jumped to a 16-2 lead and took a 44-10 advantage into halftime.  Mitchell Flannagan had 16 points and hit four of the 10 treys for St. Mary's while Hiawatha got nine points each from Sage Meyer and Andrew Lierz in the loss.
