103.9 KNZA & 92.1 KMZA Broadcast - Onaga at Troy --- (Girls | Boys)

It was a pair of  competitive TVL games on Tuesday in Troy as no team led by more than seven points the entire night.

GIRLS = Onaga 35, Troy 32

Onaga led by three points at the end of the first and second quarters and increased the margin to as many as five at 17-12 late in the first half.  The Buffaloes then took a 23-16 lead midway through the third quarter before Troy increased the defensive pressure into the full court and went on an 8-0 to close the period and take a 24-23 lead into the final frame.  Alyssa Schmille hit her second trey of the night to tie the game at 30 and Macy Norris had a putback to make it 32 all with 2:31 remaining.  Onaga left the door open by missing eight free throws in the fourth stanza, but got one from Belinda Ames with seven seconds left for a 35-32 lead.

Ames scored 8 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to propel Onaga to their first win of the season (1-17), despite making a mere 3-18 at the charity stripe.  Chloe Fischer added eight points and Laura Krohn scored six, including a big basket in the fourth quarter.  Troy (1-17) hit four three-pointers against the Buffaloes two-three-zone, and only had 14 turnovers, but couldn't finish and secure a couple late rebounds while falling for the second straight night on their home floor.  Sidney Fleek had eight points while Holly Williams and Macy Norris each added seven for the Trojans.

BOYS = Onaga 43, Troy 41 in Overtime

Onaga scored the first six points of the game and led throughout the first half.  Trailing 16-15 entering the third quarter, Troy got a trey from Kipp Jasper to take a 18-16 advantage and maintained the lead 23-21 into the fourth quarter.  Onaga answered with a 7-0 spurt to take a 28-23 margin before before five consecutive points by freshman, Bray Davies pulled Troy into a tie at 32 with 1:30 left.  Neither team could score in the final 90 seconds as Troy held the ball for 40 seconds by then turned it over on a backcourt after a timeout and Onaga missed a game-winner on a reverse layup by Quinton Norris.

Just like the start of the game, Onaga won the tip and scored the first six points of overtime to lead 38-32 before four six straight free throws by Reid Jasper got Troy within 39-38.  The Buffaloes missed two more free throws but Tanner Marten got an offensive rebound and put back to put Onaga ahead 41-38.  Jacob Mott connected on a three-point-play with 14  seconds remaining to knot the score, but after timeouts, the Buffs got the game winner and Norris redeemed himself and followed his own miss with a putback as time expired.

Onaga had a decisive advantage on the glass and Tanner Marten was a monster with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 9 blocked shots while Norris added 10 points as Onaga improved to 4-14 overall and 3-7 in the TVL.  Troy got 13 points from Reid Jasper while Mott and Kipp Jasper each added eight.  The Trojans made the only four treys on the night, but fell in overtime for the second straight night on the home floor to drop to 1-17 on the season.
