Doniphan West & Frankfort Girls Earn Spots in Sub-State Semifinals

After the boys opened the 1A-Division I Sub-State action at Frankfort on Monday night it was the girls turn with a pair of first round contests on Tuesday night. By the end of the night both Doniphan West and Frankfort girls earned spots into the Sub-State Semifinals as Doniphan West beat Onaga 50-31 and Frankfort topped Troy 75-23. 

Doniphan West 50-31 over Onaga 

Galloping out to an early 7-0 lead over the first three minutes of play set the tone early for Doniphan West as the Mustangs led 12-0 before Onaga got on the board getting their first points from the free throw line. The Buffaloes netted their first field goal of the game with 1:00 left in the first quarter and early turnovers by Onaga led to the Doniphan West 15-5 advantage after one quarter. Headed into halftime the lead sat at 23-11 for the Mustangs and the Doniphan West continued to extend the lead throughout the game to earn the 50-31 win. 

Shayna Wilson led Doniphan West posting 17 points and going 5-6 from the free throw line earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio. While, Makinley Smith chipped in 12 points all in the second half and Myah Olson netted nine points. The win moves Doniphan West to 8-13 on the season. 

The loss wraps up the year for Onaga at 1-19 as the Buffaloes were led by Rebecca Krohn in the loss who scored a season best 12 points, while Laura Krohn chipped in six points. 

Doniphan West now moves into the Sub-State Semifinals on Friday, March 2nd at Frankfort against Valley Falls at 6:00pm. 

Frankfort 75-23 over Troy 

Dominating the first meeting it was much of the same the second time around as Frankfort took down Troy working out to a 9-2 lead early and then led 21-5 with 1:15 left in the first quarter and 23-5 at the end of one. The lead continued to grow as Frankfort notched some three-pointers and attacked the rim in the second posting a 25-5 second quarter to lead 48-10 at the half. The Wildcats put the final touches on the game in the second half and had 10 girls score in the contest to lead them to the 75-23 win. 

The win moves Frankfort to 17-4 on the season and the Wildcats were led by Emilee Ebert who scored 25 points with 12 in the first quarter. Ebert earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio. Mariah Broxterman added 10 points for Frankfort who 10 players scored with eight registering five or more points. 

Troy with the loss wraps up the season 1-19 and was led by Macy Norris who scored eight points. 

Frankfort now moves into the Sub-State Semifinals on Friday, March 2nd at Frankfort against Centralia at 7:30pm.
