Marysville Girls & Boys Both Headed to 4A-DII State Tournament

Tight ballgames down to the wire happened all over the State on Sub-State Championship Saturday and the action in Holton at the 4A-Division II Sub-State was no different. Both the Marysville girls and boys are headed to the State tournament in Emporia after the girls beat Clay Center 44-41 and the boys topped Rock Creek 59-53. 

Clay Center had early control in the girls contest leading 13-11 after one quarter and 25-21 at the half but the second half Marysville made their push and tied the game with an 11-7 third quarter. The Bulldogs then finished the contest with a 12-9 fourth quarter and took matchup 44-41. 

Sydney Pacha led the way with 17 points including 6-8 from the free throw line, while Sami Bartels scored 11 points. With the win Marysville improved to 17-4 on the season and won their sixth in a row. The win also avenged their last loss as they beat Clay Center for the second time this season but had lost the last matchup against them. Lady Bulldogs will be making their sixth appearance at State and first since 2001. 

Marysville girls now head to Emporia for the 4A-DII State tournament where they will be the two seed and take on Nickerson (12-10) in the first round on Wednesday, March 7th at 3:00pm. 

Just like the girls Marysville found themselves down early in their Sub-State Championship game as they were lock in a battle with Rock Creek for the second time this season. Down 12-11 after one quarter Rock Creek posted a 13-7 second quarter to lead 25-18 at halftime but Marysville cut into the lead in the third quarter and finished the game strong with a 25-14 fourth quarter to secure the 59-53 win. 

Gabe Pieschl dropped 26 points to lead Marysville, while Nick Sparks tallied 14 points. The win moves Marysville to 18-3 on the season and gives them a five-game winning streak. The Bulldogs are headed to State for the 19th time and seond consecutive year coming off of a Class 3A State title last year. 

Marysville boys now turn their attention to the 4A-DII State tournament where they will be they three seed and take on Hayden (15-7) at 4:45pm on Thursday, March 8th in Emporia.
