Marysville Girls & Boys Win Valley Heights Track Invite Leading Area Performances

After the weather caused a postponement earlier in the week area teams were able to get some track and field action in on Thursday as Valley Heights hosted their meet that was originally scheduled earlier in the week. 

Marysville who jumped into the action at the meet after the cancellation earlier this week can out on top in the team standings on both the girls and boys side. For the Bulldog girls they racked up 129 total points to win by 26 points out of 10 teams in action. Axtell edged Centralia for second place by two points, while Hanover and host Valley Heights finished out the Top five in fourth and fifth, respectively. Frankfort, Onaga, Linn, Blue Valley-Randolph and Southern finished out the girls team standings in sixth through tenth. 

On the boys side it was a 152 total points that won by for Marysville as they won by 42 points over Centralia who took second by a wide margin. Axtell, Hanover and Frankfort finished third, fourth and fifth as teams, respectively. Valley Heights, Blue Valley-Randolph, Linn, Southern and Onaga finished out the boys team standings in sixth through tenth. 

Nine individual event wins led Marysville on the day with Jacob Backus picking up two of those nine as he won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.91 and 300 meter hurdles behind a time of 43.36. Matt Lindhorst and Andrew Fink also sprinted to gold for the Bulldog boys as they won the 200 (23.98) and 400 (54.42) meter dashes, respectively. The boys 4x400 meter relay brought home first place with a time of 3:44.41 and Bryson Meinhardt snagged the gold in the javelin with a toss of 172'05. The lady Bulldogs had Avery Williams claim first place in the 100 meter hurdles (17.48), while the 4x400 meter relay team took first (4:21.47) and Grace Stohs won the pole vault (11'00). 

Both Centralia and Axtell each had seven individual event winners on the day at the Valley Heights Invite. The Panthers were led by Madison Lueger as she won both the shot put and javelin behind tosses of 34'03.50 and 141'02, while Jade Rumbo added a first place showing in the discus with a throw of 88'06.50. For the Panther boys Kamble Haverkamp won the 800 meter run (2:11.04) while Dylan Boeckman took first in the pole vault (13'06), Noah Quigley won the triple jump (39'04.50) and Daegan Steinlage took first in the discus (132'10). 

Axtell Eagles were led by Olivia Kuckelman who took gold in a pair of distance races winning the girls 1600 and 3200 meter runs behind times of 5:58.35 and 13:12.78. The lady Eagles also won the 4x100 meter relay (52.18) and the Distance medley (10:34.92), while Kori Schmelzle raced to first in the 200 meter run with a time of 27.22. The Eagle boys had Quinn Buessing win the 3200 meter run (11:13.68) and the 4x100 meter relay (47.67) take first. 

The host Valley Heights was led by Kayla Smith who won three events racing to first in the 100 meter dash (12.94), while leaping to the top spot in the long jump (16'07) and triple jump (35'03). Sam Vermetten earned first in a pair of events individually winning the 400 and 800 meter run with times of 1:01.17 and 2:27.98. The Mustang boys took first in the 4x800 meter relay behind a time of 9:14.44. 

Garret Dalinghaus and Colton Parthemer each took first in an event for the Frankfort Wildcats. Dalinghaus won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.58 and Parthemer won the long jump with a leap of 19'03.75. 

Hanover Wildcat, Pete Peters led the Wildcat performances as he won the high jump (6'02) and shot put (42'09.50).

Onaga, Linn and Blue Valley-Randolph all had one event winner on the day. Belinda Ames of Onaga raced to the gold in the girls 300 meter hurdles (50.72), while Linn Bulldog Shelby Ohlde won the girls high jump (5'08). Blue Valley was led by Cole Montgomery as he won the 1600 meter run (4:59.68).
