Sabetha & Hiawatha Split Big Seven Doubleheader

Sabetha and Hiawatha faced off on the softball field in Big Seven action and the teams split a doubleheader on Friday as the Bluejays claimed a game one win 19-8 and Hiawatha answered back with a 10-4 game two win. 

It was early and often scoring in game one for Sabetha as the Bluejays plated seven runs in the top of the first inning before Hiawatha took the bats off their shoulders. The Red Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the first and another in the second but Sabetha put together their second seven run inning of the game in the top of third. Hiawatha didn't go away as the Red Hawks scored five in the bottom of fourth to make it a 14-7 contest. Sabetha scored two and three runs in the fifth and sixth, while Hiawatha plated just one more run in the fifth and the game ended in the sixth with Sabetha winning 19-8. 

Bluejays produced 19 runs on 14 hits with Rachel Kramer registering five hits going 5-5 with three runs scored and two RBI's. Trista Argabright went 3-4 with five RBI's, three runs scored and a home run in the contest. Hillary Krebs and Sofia Kuenzi each had a two-hit contest. 

Hiawatha in the loss had eight hits with Laila Jones leading the way going 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. August Koerperich added a 2-4 performance for the Red Hawks. 

Game two saw Sabetha take the early lead scoring a run on an RBI triple by Argabright but Hiawatha capitalized on a pair of Bluejay errors to get a run and tie the contest at 1-1. Sabetha regained the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth using five hits including a two RBI double by Kramer. Hiawatha again had an answer scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth using four hits. Red Hawks took their first lead in the bottom of the fifth scoring three runs with Callyn Palvish notching a two RBI double to highlight the inning. Hiawatha tacked on three more itn the sixth and went on to take the win 10-4 for the doubleheader split. 

Hiawatha had a strong performance by Kizzie Conklin who earned the win in the circle and was 3-3 with two RBI and a hit by pitch. Bethany Meyers added a 2-4 performance with two runs scored and a double. 

Sabetha in the loss had a two-hit game by Maggi Hughes and Brooklyn Bauman. 

With the split Sabetha moves to 2-8 on the season and 2-6 in Big Seven play, while Hiawatha moved to 3-7 on the season and 1-7 in Big Seven action. Both teams are back in action on Monday, April 23rd as Sabetha will host ACCHS and Hiawatha will travel to Perry Lecompton.
