Royal Valley & Atchison Track Compete at DeSoto Invite

Royal Valley and Atchison track and field teams stepped outside of the area and competed against some strong competition on Friday at the Desoto Invitational. 

Leading the way for the Royal Valley Panthers was a first place finish by Garrett Hicks as he notched a vault of 13'00 to take the gold. Also in the boys competition Kain Fink placed second in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump, while Karsen Smith and Christian McAlister tied for sixth and placed eighth in the boy’s pole vault, respectively. Gavin Cumpton competed in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and he placed fifth in each event. The Royal Valley girls were led by a second place finish in the high jump by Ivy Fink, while she also took fifth in the long jump. Kenzie Hegemann earned a third place finish in the girl’s pole vault and eighth in the 400 meter dash. Other top performers for the lady Panthers included Kylie Moore earning fifth place in the discus and seventh in the shot put, while Morgan Harvey took sixth in the 100 meter dash and seventh in the 200 meter dash. Mary Broxterman added an eighth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles.

Atchison Redmen on the day at the Desoto Invitational were led by Arhianna Franklin who placed second in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while also taking sixth in the 200 meter dash. Also for the lady Red Elizabeth Harper finished third in the 100 meter hurdles and eighth in the 200 meter dash, while Adalyn Collins took third in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. A fourth place finish was earned in the girls javelin by Morgan Perry and Talia Rawls placed eighth in the girls 100 meter dash. Atchison boys had Alex Martin take third in the 200 meter dash and fifth in the 100 meter dash, while Mathew Sowers finished fifth in the 3200 meter run. 

Royal Valley continues their track season at the Nemaha Central Invite on Tuesday, May 1st before hosting a meet on Thursday, May 3rd which Atchison will compete for their next action.
