Valley Heights Girls Take Second, While Frankfort Boys & Axtell Girls Finish Third at Riley County Track Invite

Five Twin Valley League teams continued their track seasons on Friday competing at the Riley County Invite along with several other schools. 

The top area overall team performance belonged to the Valley Heights girls as they took second place only two points behind St. Mary's, while the Axtell girls finished in third and Frankfort girls took fifth out of 11 schools. Onaga and Blue Valley-Randolph finished ninth and tenth, respectively. In the boys competition Frankfort tied for third to lead the TVL teams performances, while Valley Heights took fifth out of 12 schools. Axtell, Blue Valley-Randolph and Onaga placed seventh, eighth and 11th. 

Three first place finishes by Sam Vermetten paced the Valley Heights girl’s performances on the day as she posted times of 1:01.56, 2:31.70 and 5:25.87 to win the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run and 1600 meter run. While, Kayla Smith took home first in the girls long jump (16'04.50) and triple jump (36'06.50) and also placed second in the 100 meter dash. Skyler Saunders posted a leap of 5'02 to win the girls high jump and also grabbed a silver medal in the pole vault and bronze in the triple jump, while Shea Manley took third in the 400 meter dash. Leading the Mustang boys was Alex Hardin who with a time of 10:48.96 earned first in the 3200 meter run. The Valley Heights boys 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams each took second place, while Jeremy Reed earned second in the boys 400 meter dash and Harrison Blaske brought home third place in the boys javelin. 

Axtell Eagles top performance was a first place finish in the girls 3200 meter run as Olivia Kuckelman won the event with a time of 12:50.84 and also took third in the 1600 meter run. The lady Eagles 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams each placed second on the day, while Kori Schmelzle nabbed second place performances in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Also in action for Axtell Eagles was Chelsea Smith who finished third in the 800 meter run and Mariah Deters who took third in the high jump and long jump. A pair of second place finishes led the Axtell boys as the 4x800 meter relay took second and JJ Hart earned the silver in the 300 meter hurdles. Quinn Buessing also recorded a third place finish in the boys 1600 meter run. 

The Frankfort Wildcats were led by a pair of first place finishes as Garret Dalinghaus won the boys 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.94 and Maggi Armstrong took first in the girl’s pole vault with a vault of 9'06. Dalinghaus added a third place finish in the boys vault, while Anthony Koch took second in the 110 meter hurdles and Carson Schreiner placed second in the 200 meter dash. The Frankfort boy’s 4x100 meter relay grabbed a third place finish. For the lady Wildcats Grace Dressman, Kennen Brandt and Kaci Vaughn each registered a third place finish coming in the 100 meter hurdles, pole vault and javelin, respectively. Frankfort girls 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams also each took third. 

Cole Montgomery led Blue Valley on the day as he won the boys high jump behind a leap of 5'10 and also took third in the 800 meter run. Dakota Hagenmaeir earned second place for the Rams in the boy’s triple jump, while Lane Peter placed third in the boy’s long jump. For the lady Rams Katie Hutson earned second place in the 1600 meter run and Elizabeth Wright took third in the discus. 

Belinda Ames lead the Onaga Buffaloes as she earned second place in the girls 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while Aaron Schwartz placed third in the boys 110 300 meter hurdles.
