In a rare week two district game in 8-man-DII, the Frankfort Wildcats had no problems moving to 2-0 on the high school football season Friday night with a 52-6 win on the road at Onaga. The game was called with 6:31 remaining in the third quarter, as the 45-point mercy rule was put in place.

The Wildcats opened up the game with as quick of a start as you could have, as Brandon Bussman ran the opening kickoff back 60 yards to give Frankfort a 8-0 lead 13 second into the game.

After forcing a quick three-and-out on the Buffaloes opening possession, a bad snap on the ensuing punt gave the Wildcats the ball on the Onaga one yard line. Frankfort cashed in with a Garret Dalinghaus touchdown, before Carson Schreiner put the Wildcats up 24-0 with a 55-yard punt return for a score which was his third special teams touchdown on the season.

Onaga finally got on the board with 3:49 left in the first quarter on a 7-yard run by Ethan Powell, but Dalinghaus came right back with a 45-yard rushing score for Frankfort to push the Wildcats’ lead to 30-6 after one quarter.

The Wildcats went on to score two more time in the second quarter to lead 44-6 at halftime, as Schreiner record a 42-yard touchdown run to go along with a 50-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Brandon Bussman just before halftime.

Frankfort effectively ended the game midway through the third quarter on a 27-yard touchdown strike from Bussman to Schreiner, as the Wildcats went up by 46 points on the two-point conversion by Schreiner as well.

Despite dominating the game on the scoreboard Frankfort only had 177 total yards of offense, but received great field position all night long which made a huge difference. The Wildcats ran for 127 yards on eight carries in the contest, led by Garret Dalinghaus who record 77 yards on just six carries with two touchdowns.

Carson Schreiner dominated all facets of the game for the Wildcats, as the senior recorded four touchdowns on the night; one rushing, two receiving and one via punt return while compiling over 175 total yards of offense.

Onaga (0-2) finished with just 128 total yards of offense on the night, and will travel to Axtell next week.

Frankfort improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in district play with the win, and will play host to Doniphan West next Friday night.
