The Sabetha Bluejays were in Hoyt, Kansas Friday night to play the Panthers of Royal Valley. The defending 3A State Champs were looking to keep their undeafeted season alive and look to finish the regular season at 8-0. The Bluejays did just that as they walked off the field with an 8-0 record and would also take home a District Title. The biggest factor for the Bluejays on their way to a 48-0 win, was the passing game.

Sabetha started with the football on their own 44 yard line, but on the second play of the drive, Mason Spellmeier would take it 66 yards for the first score of the ball game, 6-0. Royal Valley would go three and out, and be forced to punt. Sabetha would then use four plays as Joe Gruber would break away for a 30 yard touchdown run, and Gabe Garber would run it in for the two-point-conversion attempt, 14-0.

Royal Valley would then turn the ball over on downs after running nine plays. Sabetha then used five plays before Gabe Garber would find Jesse Burger for the two-yard touchdown pass, 20-0. Joe Gruber would again find the endzone a second time on a 55 yard touchdown pass from Gabe Garber, and Garber would once again run in the conversion attempt, 28-0.

Just before halftime, Gabe Garber would go to the air again and this time find Ryan Stapleton for a 24 yard touchdown catch, 35-0. In the second half Mason Spellmeier would find the endzone a second time as well, this time on a seven yard touchdown run, 41-0. Andrew Frazee would also find the endzone on a five yard touchdown run.

Royal Valley would finish the game with 195 total yards. Junior Gavin Cumpton carried the ball 19 times for 90 yards, he would also go 3 of 8 passing for 27 yards and one interception. Skylar Mechtley would have 9 totes for 33 yards. Brandon Rodewald would carry the ball 10 times for 25 yards. Garrett Pruyser would get in on the action as he would have 2 receptions for 27 yards.

Sabetha would finish the game with 392 total yards in the game. Mason Spellmeier carried the ball six times for 82 yards and two scores, and would also have an 18 yard reception. Joe Gruber would have a big game with 123 yards on seven carries and one rushing touchdown, Gruber would also have two receptions for 60 yards and one receiving touchdown. Gabe Garber only had three yards on a trio of carries, but passing wise he went 7 of 8 for 125 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Stapleton, Jesse Burger and Joe Gruber all three recipients of Garber's touchdown passes.

Royal Valley will play one more game next week, but that will unfortunately be it for the Panthers, as their season comes to an end. The Bluejays finish (8-0) overall and (5-0) in the District. Sabetha will play host next week to the (5-3) Tigers of Jeff West, in Bi-District that looks to live up to the hype.
