B&B Falcons Sweep Wetmore on the Hardwood

Girls

It was a battle of birds in this early season Twin Valley League showdown and the Falcons were the one to come out on top but it was a close contest in the girls ball game throughout the entirety of the game. Wetmore got out to an early lead at the start but B&B would go on a run late in the first quarter to end the first up 10-5 and lead the rest of the ball game.

Both teams played exceptional defense forcing turnovers against each other, especially in the first half action keeping it a low scoring affair early on with it 24-18 at the half in favor of the Lady Falcons. B&B finished the game with a balanced scoring attack and junior forward, Laura Sudbeck registered another double-double this season with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Juniors, Katie Huerter and Ashley Schmitz added eight and seven points, respectively on the night. Huerter earned Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha "Player to Bank On" honors with great defensive performance anchoring the Lady Falcons defense.

For the Lady Cardinals of Wetmore they were lead by four year starting senior point guard, Alayna Noe who continued to score early on this season pouring in a game high 17 points in the game. Senior, Jordan Evans and junior, Brianna Boden both added eight and seven points each in the loss.

The Lady Falcons improved to 4-1 with the win responding after a loss to Washington County, while the Lady Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season falling to 3-1 on the year. Up next, for B&B a non-league game Tuesday against St. Mary's at home, while Wetmore has Tuesday off and will gear up to host Washington County on next Friday the 14th.

Boys

B&B jumped out early in the boys contest and wouldn't give up the lead all night to the visiting Wetmore squad. The Cardinals tired to battle back but just struggled from the floor on the night as the ball just wouldn't go down for stretches and B&B capitalized on Wetmore turnovers, especially early on in the contest.

Falcons grasped a 14-5 advantaged after the first quarter and after that Wetmore kept the other three quarters within single digits but they just couldn't dig out of the early hole. Early for B&B it was get the ball inside and when Wetmore started to key on that in the second half the Falcons opened up the game with penetration into the lane. In the first half it was the senior center, Curtis Stallbaumer doing damage for the Falcons with 15 of his 17 points in the first half. In the second half junior guard, Dustin Rottinghaus took over and scored 10 points in the fourth quarter finishing with 20 points in the contest and earning the Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha "Player to Bank On" award.

For, Wetmore it was senior guard, Ross Boeckman pacing the way in the loss as he poured in 19 points to lead the Cardinals on the night. Junior, Kyle Shumaker and sophomore, Jeremy Hoelscher each chipped in six points each.

B&B with the win matched their counterparts the girls with a 4-1 record this season, now having won three in a row, while for Wetmore the loss moves them to 0-4 on the season still in search of win number one this season. Up next, for B&B a non-league game Tuesday against St. Mary's at home, while Wetmore has Tuesday off and will gear up to host Washington County on next Friday the 14th.
