D West Girls and Jackson Heights Boys Keep Winning

GIRLS 
The Lady Mustangs jumped to an 11-1 lead and never looked back at home on Tuesday night as Abbi Ellis registered 10 first quarter points to go along with 5 steals and 6 rebounds in the opening frame.  Ellis was named the "Player To Bank On" (Sponsored by Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha) with her game high 18 points.  Payton Leach added 8 of her 12 in the second quarter as the Mustangs ran to a 39-9 halftime lead.  Kassidy Blevins scored 10 as D-West improved to 2-0 in the DVL and 4-1 overall.  Jackson Heights is down to only one upper-classmen on the high school roster after losing top returning player Tara Lierz with an ACL sprain.  The Lady Cobras had 18 turnovers in the first half and was led by freshman Kaitlyn Strube with 7 points as they remain winless at 0-5.  

BOYS
Luke Rush scored the first 8 points of the boys game as Doniphan West led 12-0 at home and hit 6 treys in the first half.  Jackson Heights used an 8-0 spurt in the second quarter to take a 24-23 halftime advantage.  After a back and forth third stanza, the Cobras went up 38-33 to end the third and pulled away in the fourth to improve to 4-1 on the season.  Preston Richter (Citizens State Bank and Trust Company Player to Bank On) had a monster double-double game with 25 points and 14 rebounds while making 8 of 10 free throws and hitting a big trifecta with three minutes left in the game to put Jackson Heights up 52-43.  Caleb Niehues and Cole Olberding each chipped in 9 points for the green and gold while D-West was led by Luke Rush with 20 and Justin Simmons 9.  The Mustangs remain winless; however, took a few positive steps and played their closest game of the season by far.
