KWCA Releases 2nd Official Rankings During Season -- Dec. 11th

Wrestling season is in full swing in the winter sports season and plenty of Kanzaland area wrestlers have been highlight things on the mat thus far this season. The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association has released its official second set of rankings during the season and many area wrestlers continue to remain ranked.

Two teams that highlight the rankings in Holton and Sabetha, will also be featured in special wrestling coverage Thursday night on 103.9 KNZA as they meet up against each for a dual at 6:00pm and live play-by-play can be heard on KNZA and online (click here to listen).

Starting off in Class 3A, both the Sabetha Bluejays and ACCHS Tigers continue to remain in the top 10 rankings as teams checking in at eighth and tenth, respectively for the second straight week.

Individually, three area wrestlers are ranked number one in their respective weight classes and all three are from different area schools. Sophomore, Logan Bowen of ACCHS remains number one in the 120lb weight class thus far this season as he most recently put up a fourth place finish at the Eudora Invitational. The other two number one spots belong to seniors from Pleasant Ridge and Sabetha. Jared Johnson of Sabetha continues to have a great season on the mat as he most recently won his weight class of 170lbs at the Sabetha Tri-State Invitational and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Tyler Edelman of Sabetha, also remained number one in his weight class of 195lbs as he is 8-1 on the season and recently placed second at the Sabetha Tri-State Invitational.

Two of the three schools with top ranked wrestlers have at least one other wrestler ranked in their respective weight class, also. For the Tigers its senior, Jared Hoffman who ranks sixth in the 285lb weight class, he recently placed seventh at the Eudora Invitational, while fellow senior, Taylor Schuetz ranks fourth at 160lbs and took sixth at the Eudora Invite.

Sabetha is the other with another grappler ranked as senior, Levi Huneke is off to a 9-0 start this season and ranked second at 182lbs, while he took the individual crown at the Sabetha Tri-State Invitational most recently.

Marysville, Doniphan West, Centralia and Horton all at least one wrestler ranked also in the most recent KWCA rankings. For the Bulldogs of Marysville the senior duo of Josh Goepfert and James Landoll both continue to be ranked this season in the weight classes of 113 and 138lbs, respectively. Goepfert and Landoll recently took home a first and second place, respectively at the Clay Center Invitational in their last action on the mat. For the Mustangs of Doniphan West sophomore, Tristan Speer ranks sixth at 195lbs; Speer took home a runner-up finish early this wrestling season at the Onaga Invitaitonal.

Centralia junior, Andrew Beck checks in at number four in the 132lb weight class, continuing to remain ranked this season. It remains a sixth place ranking for Horton senior, Little Bear Johnson in the 220lb weight class, as he took home a second place finish at the Sabetha Tri-State Invitational recently.

In Class 4A, all the area wrestlers ranked hail from the Big Seven and three schools in Royal Valley, Jeff West and Holton.

For the Panthers, senior Tanner Ogden ranks second in the weight class of 152 lbs, as he is a perfect 10-0 on the season after a 3-0 first place performance at the Cougar Classic hosted by Shawnee Mission Northwest.

The Tigers of Jeff West lone ranked wrestler sits at the number one spot at 220lbs, as junior, Justin Scott continues to have a great season remaining number one in his weight class.

The Holton Wildcats have the most wrestlers of an area school ranked in Class 4A with four wrestlers ranked in the latest rankings. Leading the way is senior, Hunter Price who ranks third at 120lbs, senior Lane Lassiter ranks fourth at 132lbs and junior, Andrew Riescheck checks in at fifth in the 160lb weight class. Price, Lassiter and Riescheck all finished runner-up in their weight classes most recently at the Clay Center Duals. Sophomore, Lucas Lovvorn jumped into the rankings this week as he's tied for sixth at 138lbs, as he captured a third place finish most recently at the Clay Center Invitational.

Latest KWCA rankings are sprinkled with Kanzaland area flavor in Class 4A and Class 3A and under, also with great performances on the mat thus far this season.
