Wamego Upends Sabetha

In a matchup of two of the top teams in Class 3A the Wamego Red Raiders avenged last seasons loss to Sabetha by using speed and athleticism in a 28-15 win over the Bluejays Friday night. 

Sabetha started the game with the football but after just three quick plays were forced to punt the ball away.       

Wamego's first drive would end on a turnover on downs as the Raiders would be stopped on a 4th down play. 

Sabetha would then drive 73 yards before Gabe Garber would find Kaleb Grimm in the endzone for a 14-yard touchdown pass giving the Bluejays a 7-0 lead. 

On their fourth possession of the ball game Wamego would have Brad Sackrider take it into the endzone from 21 yards out to tie the game up at 7-7. 

Taybor Vetter would scamper into the endzone from 10 yards out on the Red Raider’s next drive to put Wamego up 14-7.

After the halftime break the Bluejays fumbled the ball away twice on back to back drives. 

Brad Sackrider would once again get into the endozne this time from two yards out making it 21-7 in favor of Wamego. 

After a turnover on downs the Red Raiders would start with the football at the Sabetha 33 yard line, before Isaiah Childs would get his first touchdown of the night from 9 yards out which gave Wamego complete control. 

Gabe Garber would not be denied from running one in himself from 7 yards out, and running in the 2 pt conversion attempt as well to pull Sabetha within 28-15. 

However it was to much to overcome for the Bluejays as they would fall to Red Raiders by a final score of 28-15.   

The Bluejays finished the game with 189 total yards. Gabe Garber had 151 passing yards and one touchdown, and also ran for 14 yards and one score as well. Kaleb Grimm added 45 receiving yards and one touchdown on the night. 

The Red Raiders of Wamego would finish the game with 277 Total yards. Brad Sackrider finished with 174 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Taybor Vetter would end with one score on 64 yards for the night. 

The Bluejays fallto 5-2 Overall and 2-2 in District Play, and they will be at home to take on the Royal Valley Panthers next week. Wamego goes to 3-1 in District play and will get ready for a huge matchup against the Wildcats of Holton next week.
