KWCA Releases New Rankings Heading Into Holiday Break

The first half of the wrestling season is in the books with the holiday season upon us and many Kanzaland area wrestling squads and individual wrestlers have enjoyed a great season thus far and find themselves ranked by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association headed into the holiday break.

In Class 4A, seven area wrestlers are ranked in the latest polls. Holton checks in with five of the seven wrestlers in the latest rankings, one up from last rankings total of four Wildcats. Hunter Price (120), Lucas Lovvorn (138), Lane Lassiter (145) and Andrew Rieschick (160) all remained in the rankings this week and all but one of them remained in the same spot. Price, a senior, stood fast in third place in his weight class and is the highest ranked Wildcat in the polls; Fellow senior, Lassiter checks in at number five in the 145lb weight class yet again and Lovvern, a sophomore remained tied for sixth in the 138lb weight class. Rieschick, a junior did slip down one spot from number five to six in the latest polls, as he is tied for sixth.

Junior, Cooper Zeller who's had a stellar season thus far on the mat jumped into the rankings this week for Holton in the weight class of 285lbs, as he checks in at number four this week leaping into the top six this week.

The other two area wrestlers ranked in Class 4A are both guys who have remained ranked all season behind consistently great performances on the mat this year. Senior, Tanner Ogden of Royal Valley remained at number two in the 152lb weight class. For junior, Justin Scott of the Jeff West Tigers he has been at the top of the 220lb weight class all season and continues that streak this week remaining at number one.

For Class 3A, 11 area wrestlers and two teams are in the latest rankings by the KWCA. The same two teams in Sabetha and ACCHS remained ranked but the moved from their previous week's position. Tigers of ACCHS moved up from tenth to sixth this week, while Sabetha fell from eighth to tenth this week.

The Tigers of ACCHS has four wrestlers ranked in the latest polls up one from their three ranked in the last polls. Seniors, Logan Bowen (120), Taylor Schuetz (160) and Jared Hoffman (285) all remained in the rankings this week. Hoffman remained ranked at sixth, while Schuetz moved up one notch to third and Bowen fell from the number one spot down to second. Sophomore, Willy Dieckmann for the Tigers jumped into the polls this week in the 126lb weight class.

Sabetha continues to have multiple ranked wrestlers this season as seniors, Tyler Edelman and Levi Huneke both remain ranked in their respectively weight classes. Both Edelman and Huneke stood fast in their position in the rankings as Edelman remains number one in 195lb weight class and Huneke stayed put at second in the 185lb weight class.

Marysville Bulldogs are the only other Kanzaland area team to tout multiple wrestlers in the polls as seniors, Josh Goepfert and James Landoll continued to be ranked in the weight classes of 113 and 138lbs, respectively.

Centralia, Pleasant Ridge and Doniphan West have had a wrestler ranked all season and that didn't change with the latest rankings as a wrestler from both schools remained ranked. For the Panthers junior, Andrew Beck jumped up one spot to third this week in the 132lb weight class. Pleasant Ridge Ram senior, Jared Johnson continued his stellar season on the mat and remained number one in his weight class of 170lbs. Doniphan West, sophomore Tristan Speer remained in the top six of the weight class of 195lbs as he remained at number six.
