Eight Area Athletes Selected to 2020 Kansas Shrine Bowl

The 2019 high school football season was one of the best throughout Northeast Kansas in recent years and with that the Kansas Shrine Bowl announced over the weekend that seven area athletes have been selected to play in the all-star game.

All seven players will be on the East squad led by Nemaha Central’s Bryce Uphaus and Centralia’s Kamble Haverkamp who each claimed state championships in their respective classifications this season.

Along with Uphaus three other Big 7 League teams had guys selected to the game in Sabetha’s Gabe Garber, Perry Lecompton’s Grant Roush and Jeff West’s Kauli Saili.

The final two selections were from Axtell and Jackson Heights as the Eagles had Quinn Buessing earn a spot while the Cobras senior lineman Carson Williams was selected to play as well.

Marysville added one selection with running back Atreyau Hornbeak earning an all-star game nod. 

These seven guys will battle the west squad in the 47th annual game set for July 18th with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. in Topeka.
