Sabetha Hoops Get Easy Sweep at Silver Lake

Coming off great play and both advancing to the championship games of the Burlington Tournament, and having a few extra days off, the Sabetha Bluejays were both dominant on Friday night getting impressive road wins at Silver Lake and forcing a running clock with 30-plus point margins in the fourth quarter. 

GIRLS = Sabetha 52, Silver Lake 25

The back-to-back Burlington champ Bluejays improved to 11-1 on the season and won their fifth game in a row by double-digits. Sabetha held Silver Lake to just three field goals in the entire first half while jumping to a 19-7 first quarter lead and 30-9 halftime advantage.

Maggi Hughes hit a couple treys and scored eight in the opening period while Melinna Schumann also knocked down a triple and scored seven points in the opening eight minutes to set the tone for the night. 

Schumann hit a couple more trifecta's in the third stanza and finished with 16 points while Morgan Schuette added nine and Kinley Schuette had seven. Sabetha had nine players score and only committed five turnovers in the contest while hitting seven shots behind the arc.

Kyla Hay had 11 points off the bench including three triples to pace Silver Lake, who is now 6-6 after their four game win streak was halted.

Similiar to the girls game, the Sabetha boys came out on fire. Mainly, Gabe Garber, who scored 13 points in the first five minutes of the non-league showdown. Drew Schmelzle also fired up the fans with a follow up slam dunk coming right down the middle of the lane after a missed Sabetha shot.

Garber finished with a game high 21 points while Kaleb Evans was a monster inside with 15 points and 14 rebounds, including several offensive boards while creating second and third chance opportunities. Kaleb Grimm and Braden Argabright each chipped in eight points as Sabetha won for the third time in the last four games and is now 5-7 on the season. 

Silver Lake fell to 1-9 and was led by Kamryn Kaniper with 13 points while Jarek Clark and Kyler Kaniper each added nine for the Eagles.
