The Jackson Heights girls’ basketball team has been one of the best throughout Northeast Kansas for the past couple of seasons including winning 17 games a year ago and reaching the state tournament for the first time since 1999.

The Cobras have been just as good this season and possibly even better as they are off to an 11-2 start overall along with holding an 8-1 mark in Northeast Kansas League play.

For the past four seasons the Jackson Heights girls have had several different girls step up but perhaps none bigger than current senior Kylie Dohl who on Friday became the all-time leading scorer in Cobra girls’ basketball history with a 19-point performance in a win over Horton.

She needed just six points heading into Friday to break the record which was previously held by Deatra Wheeler at 1,127 points.

That came just a week after Dohl became the all-time leading rebounder in school history with over 634 in her career which broke the previous record held by Carrie Lierz.

On the season Dohl is averaging just over 15 points per game while pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out three assists a night.

She is shooting over 50 percent from the field this season including a 35 percent clip from 3-point land while shooting 65 percent from the free throw line.

She went over the 20-point mark in each of the first two games of the season and went over 1,000 points for her career back on Dec. 19 in a win over Maur Hill-Mount Academy.

Dohl will look to lead Jackson Heights to another state tournament berth as she has the Cobras currently in the third spot of the Class 2A Horton Sub-State with seven games remaining in the regular season.
