Sabetha Girls, Hiawatha Boys Lead Area Cross Country Teams at Marysville

2020 Marysville Cross Country Invitational – Results

Area cross country teams were in action Saturday at the Marysville Invitational and the best area finishes came from the Sabetha girls and Hiawatha boys.

On the girl’s side Sabetha won the meet behind three top 15 finishes led by Hattie Lukert and Mary Lukert who finished second and third respectively while Leah Lukert claimed eighth.

Hiawatha finished second as a team on the girl’s side with three more top 15 finishers as Kate Madsen led the way taking fourth while MJ Hageman finished 11th and Darcy Lierz 13th.

The winner of the meet came from Doniphan West who had Chloe Clevenger take the top spot while Claire Cole added a sixth-place finish to give the Mustangs a third-place team finish.

Horton was the only other area team with multiple top 15 finishers as Maliyah Soto claimed ninth while Keirria Blacksmith came in 14th.

The girl’s side was rounded out by Nemaha Central and Axtell as the Thunder had Hailey Nordus finish in seventh place while the Eagles’ Aspen Buessing finished 15th.

On the boy’s side Hiawatha took second as a team with three guys placing in the top 15 led by Justin Hodge who claimed second place while Christian Shaffer took fifth and Camden Bachman eighth.

Sabetha finished right behind Hiawatha in third with three more top finishers led by Cameron Harrell who took third while Kalvin Evans finished sixth and Braden Menold 10th.

Nemaha Central also had a strong showing with three guys inside the top 15 led by John Langill who took seventh while Trent Schmelzle and Carter Lutz finished 11th and 12th.

The meet was rounded out by Centralia and Horton who each had one guy finish in the top 15 as the Panthers had Race Engelken finish 13th while the Chargers Gunner Smith was right behind in 14th.
