The game was never out of hand for either squad but on their home floor the Frankfort Lady Wildcats lead a majority of the game stretched the lead out late to secure their sixth win of the season, capturing a 42-37 win over Centralia. Centralia and Frankfort traded blows back and forth in a low scoring affair that saw each team outscore the other in the first two quarters by one point to be tied at 16-16 going into halftime. Sophomore, Amaris Jones hit a three at the buzzer to tie the game at 16-16 to end the first half.

The third period was much of the same from the first half, but the fourth quarter is when both teams picked up the scoring with an 18-14 fourth quarter in favor of Frankfort. Senior guard, Jessa Jones who was quiet in the first half with zero points, picked her game up in the second half with 11 points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter.

Frankfort was lead in the game by the inside presence of Josie Hale who finished with 13 points, while Jones finished with 11 points and Ashley Joseph added 11 points herself. Jones’ 11 points and presence especially in the second half earned her the Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha “Player to Bank On” award.

For Centralia in the loss missed the presence of junior, Kaitlyn Koch was missed who missed the game with a strained MCL but Amaris Jones put on a great display on the hardwood as she tallied 17 points, nine of which came in the fourth quarter. Another sophomore in Liz Hasenkamp tallied double figures also with 12 points on the night, but Centralia overall had only four players score in the contest.

With the win Frankfort improved to 6-1 on the season, while Centralia fell to 2-4 on the year with the loss. Both teams will hit the hardwood again on Tuesday before gearing up for the TVL tournament. Centralia will head out on the road to take on Valley Heights on Tuesday, while Frankfort will host Clifton-Clyde.

Boys

It was a tale of two halves in the boys contest between Frankfort and Centralia, as the Panthers worked themselves back to .500 with a 53-38 road win over the Wildcats. Panthers got off to a nice start and built a seven point lead at the end for the first quarter, 17-10, behind six players tallying at least one bucket. The Wildcats responded with a 13-9 second quarter behind the hot shooting of senior, Alex Surdez who hit four of his six three’s in the first half; with the 13-9 second quarter Frankfort worked within three points, as Centralia lead the game 26-23 at the half.

Second half started off well for Frankfort with a three by Surdez to tie the game at 26-26 and then forced a Centralia turnover, but after that it was all Panthers for the rest of the third quarter. Centralia went on to outscore Frankfort 18-7 in the third period to gain control of the contest and worked their way to their third win of the season.

Centralia had seven different players score in the contest, but it was junior, Sam Steinlage who stood above the rest with 22 points in the contest scoring in every quarter. Steinlage did everything from score inside and play great defense coming away with steals and more, which earned him the Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha “Player to Bank On” award. Junior, Brett Burdiek added nine points on the night as the second leading score for the Panthers on the evening.

For Frankfort only four players scored with one standing above the rest in Surdez who was on fire early in the game and finished with 25 points, hitting six three pointers. Calahan Brown, who had scored 20+ points in the last four games, cooled off and only tallied 10 points, but did keep that streak of double figures game alive, as he’s tallied double figures in every game this season for Frankfort.

With the win Centralia improved to 3-3 with the win, while Frankfort fell to 3-4 with the loss. Both teams will hit the hardwood again on Tuesday before gearing up for the TVL tournament. Centralia will head out on the road to take on Valley Heights on Tuesday, while Frankfort will host Clifton-Clyde.
