10 Local Teams Highlight Dec. 8 KBCA Rankings

The first week of the high school basketball season wrapped up on Saturday for area teams and with that the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released the newest set of state rankings featuring 10 local teams.

In Class 3A the girl’s rankings remain virtually unchanged from the preseason rankings as three area teams are in the top 10 and all from the Big 7 League with Nemaha Central ranked third, Sabetha fifth and Jeff West seventh.

Just like 3A, Class 2A remains virtually unchanged with Valley Heights coming in this week at No. 5 while Jeff County North is ranked eighth.

The final ranked girls team comes in 1A Division I with the Centralia Panthers ranked second with their first game coming Tuesday night on the road at 3-0 Wetmore.

On the boy’s side this week four local teams are ranked including two in Class 3A with Royal Valley ranked sixth while Nemaha Central is newly into the rankings at No. 10.

In 1A Division I the Centralia boys continue to be ranked seventh despite their first game coming this week against Wetmore on Tuesday, while in 1A Division II the Axtell boys are newly into the rankings with a 2-0 record checking in at No. 8.
