Holton 36 Girard 0

Another win and another shutout and another dominating performance by the Holton Wildcats as they blanked Girard 36-0 on Friday night to win the Class 3A Sectional and advance to the semifinals with a game at Frontenac next week. Holton led 29-0 at halftime despite two empty redzone possessions and registered five takeaways to secure their second straight shutout and third in the last four games.

Girard only had five total turnovers in their first 10 games this season, but ended the first half with three straight giveaways as Holton got two interceptions from Jake Zeller and one from Lucas Adcock as well as fumble recoveries by Cayden Jackson and Garyson Booth. Jackson, the leading tackler for the Holton defense had a monster night with two quarterback sacks and two other tackles for loss as the Wildcats held the Trojans to a mere 126 total yards in the game. Girard managed only two first downs and 44 yards in the first half.

Holton racked up 323 yards with 298 on the ground. Matt Lierz opened the scoring as his first carry went for a 28-yard touchdown on fourth and six to cap the opening drive. Lierz ended up with 109 yards on just six carries, but did throw his first two interceptions of the season and missed a couple field goals in the blistering cold wind.  Gary Booth had two scores and 85 yards on 20 carries while Jayden Fletcher also scored twice and registered 62 yards on 15 totes.

Girard, who traveled a long way in their first road game since October 8th, ended their best season since 2006 with a record of 10-1. Holton is now 11-0 and will play at Frontenac (9-2), who was a 42-26 winner at Rock Creek.
