With several coaches and players missing for both teams because of illness and shortened B and C team games, the Holton varsity squads both came away with wins at Perry on Tuesday despite a slow start to each contest.

GIRLS = Holton 41, Perry 19

Despite only leading 3-0 after one quarter, Holton held Perry without a point for the first 13 minutes of the game and only allowed the Kaws just one made field goal the entire first half in route to a 16-4 lead. Macey Patch scored 13 points and Linsdsey Wisdom added 11 as Holton evened their record at 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big 7 League.

Perry Lecompton played without two top players as Taylor Damme and Allyson Baker missed the contest. Brooke Metcalfe, Reagan Thayer and Campbell Keller all scored five points to pace the Kaws who dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in Big 7 play.

BOYS = Holton 52, Perry 45

Another slow start in this game with Perry leading 5-2 after one quarter as Holton went 0-8 from three-point-land to start the game. However, an 18-10 second quarter put the Wildcats ahead 20-15 at halftime and they would never give up the lead.  Holton stretched the margin to 14 and the closest Perry got was 44-39 with just over two minutes remaining.

Matt Lierz scored 19 points and Jaylen Turner hit the 15-point mark for the third straight contest as the Cats played without two of their forwards. Tyson Snyder added 8 points and Kobe Black had six all in the second quarter in his first varsity start.  The Wildcats improved to 5-3 and 3-3 in the Big 7.

Evan Gottstein led Perry with 12 points while going 9-11 from the foul-line while Seth Cooksey added 9 and Kaden Doleman chipped in 8 points. The loss was the first in four games for the Kaws who are now 5-4 overall and 3-3 in league competition.

Perry will host Sabetha on Friday night while Holton has a home game against Riverside.
