Centralia, Valley Heights Advance to TVL Girls Tournament Title Game

The top two seeds in the girls TVL Tournament advanced to the title game on Saturday night with wins on Friday night. 

(1) Centralia 57, (4) Doniphan West 35

This game never seemed in doubt for the still undefeated Centralia Panthers as they jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter and then were able to build it to a 15 point lead at halftime. 

Doniphan West was able to keep it fairly close in the third quarter but Centralia would outscore the Mustangs by seven in the fourth quarter to put the game away. 

It was the second win for Centralia over Doniphan West in less than two weeks. 

Lena Haverkamp led the way for Centralia with 17 points and four rebounds. Avery Deters posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Oen Deters and Tatum Kramer each added nine. 

D-West was led by Claire Cole with 13 points while Sydney Smith added eight. 

Panthers outrebounded the Mustangs 29-27 and the two teams combined for 41 turnovers. Centralia also had a plus six advantage at the free throw line. 

Panthers stay perfect with the win as they're now 9-0 while D-West fell to 8-3 with the loss. 

(2) Valley Heights 47, (3) Hanover 38

A dominate second half by Valley Heights was the difference in the game as they would outscore Hanover 31-18 in the second half after trailing by four at halftime. 

Mustangs took a five point lead into the fourth quarter after outscoring Hanover 14-5 in the third quarter and then they were able to hold off the Wildcats down the stretch. 

The story in this game was Emma Yungeberg who finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds for Valley Heights. Yungeberg was saddled in the first half with two early fouls and was limited on minutes but scored 20 of those 29 points in the second half and was a big difference maker. 

Maddy Vermetten was also in double figures for Valley Heights with 10 points. 

Hanover was led by Ceegan Atkins with 16 points and nine rebounds while Tessa Lohse and Anna Jueneman each added five. 

Valley Heights stays perfect as they improve to 11-0 while Hanover dropped to 8-2 overall. 

Centralia and Valley Heights will battle for the TVL Tournament Title on Saturday night while Hanover and D-West will battle for third place.
