Nemaha Valley and Falls City Boys to Raider Championship

Boys Basketball action resumed Thursday with 4 more games at the 33rd Annual Raider Classic in Seneca.  Nemaha Valley and Falls City easily advanced to the championship which will be played at 7:00 PM on Saturday and heard live on KNZA 103.9 (click to listen).

Nemaha Valley 56, Marysville 25                       Falls City 57, Troy 21

In the first semifinal, Falls City scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back taking a 33-9 lead into halftime.  The Tigers (16-1) were led by sophomore Jack Hartman with 15 points while Cord Huettner added 12 and Mitchell Harling scored 11.  Falls City also made four treys and 9 of 11 free throws to get back to the championship game for the first time since they won the Raider Classic in 2010.  Troy (5-6) got 6 points from Collin Jasper in the loss. 

In the second semifinal, Nemaha Valley sprinted to a 17-2 advantage and never looked back and Creighton Brinker had two slam dunks during the early Raider run to get the home crowd and team in a frenzy.  Brinker scored 14 while Trent Olberding added 12 and Justice McKernan had his best shooting game of the season with 18 points including 4 of 5 behind the arc.  The Raiders have now made 14 treys in the tourney this week and remain undefeated at 11-0.  They look for a three-peat on Saturday night. 

Consolation Games = Hiawatha 51, Horton 47     Jackson Heights 45, St. Mary's 36

Hiawatha (2-8) has won two games this season and both now against Horton by four points each time.  The Redhawks came from 9 points down to get the victory Thursday as both teams shot well from outside the arc.  Taylor Lee had 14 for Hiawatha and Logan Gormley added 13, while Dakota Bayles led everyone with 17 for Horton and Trey Dishon chipped in 11.  The Chargers (5-6) came into the Raider Classic with a four game win streak, but after two tight losses by a combined 6 points will play for 7th Saturday at 2:30 against St. Mary's. 

Jackson Heights (7-5) beat the Bears for the second time this season with a strong inside game as Cameron Thomas scored 24 points and Preston Richter added 10 for the Cobras.  St. Mary's hung around and got the deficit down to two points in the fourth quarter before JH hit free throws to secure the win.  Jackson Heights plays Hiawatha in the fifth place game Saturday at 4:00 PM in Seneca.
