Sabetha Pulls Off Incredible Comeback to Punch Ticket to 3A State Tournament in MHK
By Brandon Tadtman

The Sabetha Bluejays through nearly four innings had a lot of work to do against Jefferson West in the 3A Regional Title game on Wednesday night in Marysville.

The work was more than certainly put in by the Bluejays as they were down 5-0 halfway through the game with their season on the line.

Four runs in the fourth inning then followed by five runs in the fifth inning as they went from down five to up four in the blink of an eye.

The comeback secured a 9-6 win over the Tigers to punch their ticket to the 3A State Baseball Tournament next week in Manhattan.

The rally in the fourth inning came with two outs which made it even more impressive. Tristan Wittwer led off the inning with a single then that was followed by a walk from Christian McAfee.

Back-to-back strikeouts put any kind of rally in jeapordy but Nohl Niehues drove one in with a double and then Mitchell Kramer added a two RBI triple to cut the deficit to 5-3. Kramer was able to score not long after on a wild pitch.

Three walks got the bases loaded for the Blue Jays with one out in the fifth. Jonathan Renyer would drive in two with a single and then another double by Niehues drove in two more. Kramer added a double that scored Niehues to put a stamp on the comeback.

Jefferson West added one in the sixth but went down in order in the seventh as Sabetha then started the celebration.

Sabetha returns to the State Tournament for the first time since 2019, which was the last time the Blue Jays won the State Championship.

The State Tournament is in Manhattan next week and Sabetha will take a 15-8 record into Tointon Family Stadium.

Kaden Stones struck out ten as he got the start on the mound for the Tigers but was pulled in the middle of the fifth inning.

The Tigers season comes to an end with a record of 11-8.
