KWCA Releases New State Wrestling Rankings -- Jan. 23rd

With state wrestling about a month away things are straight to heat up on the mat and area wrestlers continue have great performances this season. In the latest KWCA rankings 19 wrestlers and three teams find themselves ranked.

Starting off in Class 3A, this week two teams from the area find themselves in the top 10, as the ACCHS Tigers remained in the team rankings jumping up one spot to number nine and the Bulldogs of Marysville jumped into the rankings at number seven as a team. Both the Tigers and the Bulldogs feature three ranked wrestlers in the latest KWCA polls that rankings the top six wrestlers in each weight class.

For the Tigers senior, Taylor Schuetz and sophomore, Logan Bowen have been staples in the rankings all season with their continually top performances in duals throughout the year. Schuetz this week ranks fifth in 160lb weight class, while Bowen ranks fourth in the 120lb weight class. Sophomore, Willy Dieckmann also is ranked for ACCHS has he's been ranked a majority of the season and comes in at number four this week in the 126lb weight class.

Marysville this season on the mat has been lead by the performance of seniors, Josh Goepfert and James Landoll. Both Goepfert and Landoll have been ranked all season and consistently have had top performances at all the duals they have competed in for the Bulldogs. Goepfert is now second in the rankings at 113lbs and Landoll is currently ranked fourth at 138lbs. Freshman, Chris Deters has now joined his fellow Bulldog grapplers in the rankings jumping into the rankings at number three this week in the 106lb weight class.

The Sabetha Bluejays have been lead by a pair of ranked wrestlers all season as seniors, Tyler Edelman and Levi Huneke both continued to be ranked this week. Edelman remained at number four in the 195lb weight class while Huneke fell one spot to number five in the 182lb weight class.

Pleasant Ridge, Centralia, Onaga and Doniphan West all season have had at least one wrestler ranked and that trend continues this week. Jared Johnson, senior from Pleasant Ridge remains at the top of the mountain at number one in 170lb weight class, while Centralia junior, Andrew Beck remained at number five in the 132lb weight class. Both Mychal Kolterman (285lb) of Onaga and Tristan Speer (195lb) of Doniphan West each remained in the rankings at fifth and third, respectively.

In Class 4A, the Holton Wildcats after a second place finish at their home tournament have returned as a team to the top 10 at number 10. Wildcats have been lead by many great performances on the mat this season and continue to have individual wrestlers ranked as three Holton wrestlers are in the latest KWCA rankings.

Senior, Hunter Price remains in the rankings this week at number four in the 120lb weight class, he has been ranked all season long. Senior, Lane Lassiter and junior, Cooper Zeller also remained in the rankings this week for the Wildcats as Lassiter checks in at number four in the 145lb weight class and Zeller remained at number two in the heavyweight division (285lbs).

Jeff West Tigers, also have multiple wrestlers ranked in the latest rankings as junior, Justin Scott continues to be at the top in the 220lb weight class, remaining ranked number one, while freshman, Tucker Schreiner remains ranked after jumping into the rankings last week in the 106lb weight class, as he remains at number six.

Royal Valley senior, Tanner Ogden and Atchison sophomore, Tyler Harris both continue to remained to be ranked also with Ogden ranking fourth in the 152lb weight class and Harris at fifth in the 160lb weight class.
